Major Changes to Spousal Open Work Permits in Canada for 2025 ๐๐จ๐ฆ
Students studying in Canada will now need to be enrolled in a Master's, PhD, or professional program to bring their spouse to Canada while they study.
For those on work permits, spouses can now only come to Canada if the worker is in a high-skilled position (TEER 3 or higher).
Policy changes have made it more difficult to obtain spousal open work permits, both students and temporary workers will be subject to these changes in 2025. ๐
Stay informed and plan ahead for these important changes! ๐

๐ค Out-of-Canada vs. Inland Spousal Sponsorship: Which is Right for You? ๐จ๐ฆ
Deciding between an outside-of-Canada and an inland spousal sponsorship application? Hereโs what to consider:
๐ Travel Needs:
Inland Application: Requires the principal applicant to stay in Canada for 4-5 months until an open work permit is issued. If they need a visa, traveling in and out of Canada could take extra time.
Outside-of-Canada Application: Allows the applicant to remain outside Canada during processing, which can be beneficial if travel is needed.
โ ๏ธ High-Risk Cases:
Outside-of-Canada Applications: Can be appealed if refused, making them a better choice for high-risk cases.
โ๏ธ Visa Status:
If the principal applicant already has a travel visa, you might choose between inland or outside-of-Canada based on their needs.

Usually, yes! You can travel while your application is being processed, but keep these key points in mind:
๐ If you're from a visa-required country, make sure you have a valid temporary resident visa to return to Canada.
โ๏ธ Before you take off, secure your temporary resident visa for a smooth return.
๐ Be prepared for questions from a CBSA officer upon arrival, especially if you have a pending PR application. Answer honestly to avoid complications.
