I made "Orange Occultation 2024" (Print-based mixed media (Wood cut print, hand coloured with inks and collaged marbled paper) 40X 29 inches) to commemorate the North American Solar Eclipse. I used a large black and white woodcut print I pulled in 2023 as a base, which I hand coloured using printmaking and India inks. Imagining a shimmering orange corona, I made some marbled paper that I cut into pieces resembling solar rays and eruptions that would be visible behind the darkened moon.
We will be observing the eclipse behind our ISO Standard solar glasses from the backyard on April 8, 2024, where we expect 98.87% obscuration at ~3:25 pm EST.
