THIS IS IT...all the preparations for the Maple Run Tour have been made. We are all ready for folks to come out and join us today and Sunday 7th for a tour in and around Pakenham to see the historic sites and spectacular spring waters of the Mississippi River.
AND of course, visit the 8 tour stops with 28 diverse artists and artisans who are excited to share what they have created with you.

OMG only one more sleep for the Maple Run Tour . April 6th and 7th from 10am to 5-pm. After a last (hopefully) winter blast, come take a short drive from Ottawa to see and speak with the artists and artisans who have worked hard over the last few months in their studios, workshops and happy places preparing for the Maple Run Tour . The tour is approx. 40km in length to see all 8 stops and visit the 28 artisans .

A tour like no other, Maple Run is a unique blend of art, fine craft, interesting and heritage buildings and spectacular spring scenery. It takes place in and around the village of Pakenham - right in maple syrup country.

Farmgate Cider has teamed up with Smokin Garvins to bring you another place to get food while on tour. They are a popular food truck so they'll only be at Farmgate on Saturday - but there's lots of other tour food offerings for both days! https://mapleruntour.com/eateries/

This weekend we're Stop #4 of the Maple Run Tour will be joining us on Saturday from 11-5pm, serving up some pork belly tacos!

It looks like mother nature is going to let the sun shine for the Maple Run Tour taking place this weekend April 6th and 7th in and around the village of Pakenhan. A great reason to take the short drive from Ottawa or surrounding area to see the artisans at 8 unique locations.

No need to pack a lunch, there are several places along your route at tour stops where you can purchase a light lunch or snacks and beverages too. On the brochure and website www.mapleruntour.com all the tour details such as stops, artisans, food, washrooms and accessibility are mentioned.

SHAWN HUMPHREY, LEATHERWORKER: Find Shawn at the stop #2 CEDAR HILL SCHOOLHOUSE, 270 Cedar Hill Road, Pakenham.
Shawn uses a mix of modern and traditional tools and techniques to create practical designs built for daily use, with a blend of classic and contemporary styles. All his products are made from full grain cowhide or buffalo hides and are saddle stitched by hand.

COLIN REDKNAP – WOODTURNING. At stop #4. FARMGATE CIDER, 4547 Mohr’s Road, Arnprior
There is something very satisfying about taking what appears to be an old stick or chunk of wood, shaping and polishing it until the grain pops and something spectacular is revealed. To me it is all about the grain and, for pens and bowls, burls provide the perfect canvas to produce remarkable looking pieces.
I have continued my turning path, moving from pens to larger turnings, I let the wood define the shape, every piece is unique and free form as I continue to improve my turning skills and strive to achieve the “perfect cuts”. https://www.facebook.com/GetLathedWoodturning

Susan weaves with love, attention to detail and weaves both luxurious and practical pieces for the home and personal items. Cotton &/ or linen are woven into the “World’s Best Tea Towels”. Scarves, shawls and wraps are woven with quality yarns such as linen, cotton, silks, cashmere and tencel &/ or a combination. Hand felted cowls, scarves and shawls are carefully done with soft 100% merino fibres and or silk.

The past 23 years have been focused in Art Glass while undertaking a broad range of commissions and works of personal expression.

Mike Desrochers Artist Blacksmithing: Mike returns to the Maple Run Tour with his spectacular metal sculptures and objects and his unique take on artisanal blacksmithing. His artwork is varied, each forged of scrap metal from farm and agricultural tools. Most creations are near-scale sculptural renditions of wildlife.
His artistic lines are informed by the natural world. Driven by the need to create and express himself in this medium of formidable resistance, he surrenders to the old-time practice of balancing function with organic form. His pieces are one-of-a-kind originals created by re-forging discarded farm and industrial metals by traditional methods.

Barcha's Pottery: "I make functional and decorative pieces, using slabs, in combination with thrown elements. I experiment with distorting and altering thrown pieces and adding more texture by stamping, folding, carving, or simply adding more clay and decorating with slips and brush work. The contrast between glazed and unglazed parts of the pots brings out the texture of the piece and the warmth of the clay. Most of my work has some function with sculptural content. My work is high-fired pottery in oxidation. My passion for gardening and nature is represented in my work and it is a continuous inspiration."
