It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jack Scott on Monday, February 24 at the age of 92. Visitation takes place on Friday, March 7, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Ashburham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, in Peterborough.
Jack joined CPS-ECP after taking the Boating Course in 1997. He enjoyed the course so much that he was a Proctor the following year and an Instructor the year after. As Boat Pro Officer, he conducted PCOC tests monthly in Ennismore for three years and also at the Kawartha Adventure show. Working up the ladder, he became an Assistant Training Officer, then Executive Officer, and in 2002 became Peterborough Squadron Commander for a 2-year term. As Past Commander he continued to teach the PCOC and VHF-DSC Maritime Radio courses. In 2006, Jack again took the reins as Squadron Commander from October till May 2007. In 2007, Jack also became Quinte District Training Officer and then District Executive Officer. In June 2009 Jack became Quinte District Commander.
Over the years, Jack has piloted Peterborough Squadron and Quinte District through calm and stormy waters, providing strong leadership with care and compassion, always with Elsie by his side for support and encouragement.
Jack's boating experience was varied. He and Elsie spent many wonderful years cruising through the Rideau and Trent systems in various boats, and then in later years traded the boating life for the camping life, enjoying many days on the open road.
We will all remember Jack for his experienced course instruction, great stories of many adventures, and the twinkle in his eyes.
Poem for A Sailor
No more a Watch to stand, Old Sailor.
For you are drifting on an ebbing tide.
Eight Bells has rung. Dog Watch is done.
A new Berth waits you on the other side.
Your ship is anchored in God’s Harbour.
And though his sailors are of equal rank
There'll be Shipmates on the deck to greet you.
And Pipe, as you ascend the Plank.
Her boilers with full head of steam,
Cargo stowed and Galley stored.
Just waiting to get underway
When the last Hand comes aboard.
Look sharp! That Hand is you, Old Sailor.
And you’ll be sailing out on Heavenly Seas.
So may the wind be ever at your back.
Fair Weather. And, Godspeed.
