County Photographer Phil Norton leads photography workshops and non-photographic outings, inspiring other "county" photographers to create high caliber images in their local areas. Many of our members have been top prize-winners in CLIC and other competitions. We work in conjunction with camera clubs throughout Ontario and Quebec. County Photographer and County Outings get you to places where grea

t photos can be made, in all seasons, all weather and all times of day and night with smart phones or DSLR’s. Our goal is to show you places off the beaten path and teach multimedia storytelling and regional documentary and to give you opportunities to do purposeful photography that makes a difference in your community...and beyond. Nature hikes, adventure sports, historical sites, fitness, sustainable living skills, growing food, birding, bicycling, kayak, canoe, camping, cross-country ski, snowshoe, weekend retreats at country inns and rustic lodges, environmental speakers, travel slideshows and multimedia on the big screen. Regional documentary projects and e-commerce stock photography website. Private camera and computer workflow tutoring. Terms of photo use
Thank you to our many generous hosts who have invited our group into your homes and businesses, farms and performances. We post our photos online and publicize your events free of charge. You may place a link to our web galleries on your website or social media but please do not copy or save the photos directly to your computer or upload them to social media. The images are copyrighted and we charge use fees for publication, in print and on the internet. Photographers spend a lot of money purchasing and repairing cameras, lenses, computers and software as well as travel expenses, insurance and learning their craft, not to mention the hours, days and years learning, shooting, editing and archiving images. We appreciate your support and fair use of our work so that we can offer this service in partnership with our community.

So saddened to learn of the passing of one of our own--a frequent participant in our "Photography & Fitness" outings around Prince Edward County and beyond. Nicola was such a joy to have along, rain or shine, she kept things happy and fun...and brought along Rachel who shared this invitation to her mother's celebration of life in the Belleville church where Nicola worked ❤️💔❤️

PE County's "secret beaches" and back roads to the South Shore are the mainstay of my guided tours. Since the March 2020 shutdown for Covid, the small group adventures started up again last fall with this fun gang of long-time friends from all points NSE&W for a reunion. Good eating at the outdoor wood-fired pizza oven high above Lake Ontario. Also shown are some memorable walks with our more regular participants in all seasons! Signing up for a tour includes many posed shots of you out and about in

We have so much fun on the guided tours of PEC -- "Parts Unknown Of Prince Edward County". Recently I took a family of 4 on a 4-hour adventure for $400. To make it kid-friendly, the Mariners Park was one of our stops. Climbing into old boats, cranking antique iron machines, running around the fort and tossing a frisbee...right before a sweet sit-down feast with the locals at the Cherry Valley strawberry social!

Okay how is this for a start—matching up photos of scenes with the paintings by the Group of Seven? The waterfalls by A.Y. Jackson and the stormy skies by Tom Thomson are along the Algoma Tourism route. Our photography workshop north of Lake Superior runs September 26-30.

Are you a Conservation Photographer? You love photographing woodlands and wetlands, wildlife and weather, hiking, biking, paddling—you care about preserving wild lands and wetlands—migration corridors, clean air and dark night skies.
Join our small band of conservation photographers, 3 accomplished adventurers already signed up, and the professional leaders of this autumn workshop. Whether advanced or beginner, we all share the same passion, speak the same jargon—we look forward to sharing our experiences and learning from each other—creating a conservationists network and hopefully return trips in the 4 seasons.
At legendary Stokely Creek Lodge north of Lake Superior--this coming September 26-30, 2022--we have their northern forest property all to ourselves for 3 full days and 4 nights! The amazing seasonal scenery and landscape views at various times of day and atmospheric moods will keep the creative juices flowing and adrenaline level at a constant high!
We will venture off-campus to high cliffs and mountain top overlooks, vast panoramas of red and yellow forest, rocky rivers and waterfalls. Guaranteed great meals and cozy accommodations in the backcountry, camera and computer instruction, slideshows by all participants. Meet some local north country residents, drone photography demonstration and “shop talk” by workshop leader, lifelong professional photojournalist and published environmental writer Phil Norton, 65, has led similar trips to all corners of North America since 2012.
Luck and weather-dependent, we'll have misty sunrises and glorious sunsets, night sky photography, sightings of moose, bear and lynx, and ancient wall art pictographs. Your day drive getting here will be half the fun. We have tips on stops to make en route following the Group Of Seven history of art.
The Algoma Highlands Conservancy is right out our back door. We will drive to downtown Sault Ste. Marie for a street shootiing walkabout and views of the Lake Superior waterfront.
Workshop fee (all inclusive) = $1,481.40. Claim a 20% Ontario Staycation tax credit on accommodations. Expecting 6 participants, maximum cut-off 10. Sign up now: www.photographyadventures.net

It’s been a long 2 years shut down during the pandemic. At last I’m preparing an email to all of our County Outings and Photography Adventures followers. Make sure you’re on the mailing list — [email protected]
Gradually we’re opening up to leading local “Parts Unknown of Prince Edward County”, speaking to camera clubs like Northumberland and Quebec City in 2023, and a group trip to the wild country north of Sault Ste. Marie for 3 full days/4 nights of peak autumn colour end of September 2022.

If I only had one hour to visit Prince Edward County, there's only one place I'd want to be, Aidan Haley's art studio along Old Milford Road. The Man Behind The Myth is out there right now...this Canada Day long weekend from 8:00 - 4:00 waiting to welcome anyone who stops by. He's a man of many hats--he's been everywhere and done everything--and extremely productive at age 84, even though he's frequently spotted out in his lawn chair watching the traffic go by! Favourite scenes of natural landscapes in Algonquin and his native Newfoundland and still exploring the County's woodlands and marshes wearing his painter's colours on his vest while spotting birds and wildflowers. Between the scenes he puts on his canvas and his stories behind the pictures--and his good looks and humour-- you meet a combination of Tom Thomson, Ansel Adams, Jackrabbit Johannsen and Kenny Rogers!! As for his salesman's talents, you may have come to browse but you will walk out with 3 framed prints in hand. All new work, a must-see in PEC: www.aidanhaley.com P.S. don't believe ALL of the stories!

As a Canadian guided tour operator I receive a newsletter from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. I found this poignant message by Beth Potter, President & CEO.

In everything we do, we need to remember the history of our nation – and the people who lived here first. We need to incorporate their traditions, their lessons, and their point of view in everything we do.

In the tourism world, we need to stop thinking of Indigenous tourism as a niche market. We need to honour the people that walked here first, the stories that defined their way of life, and the lessons we can learn from them about caring for Mother Earth.

Historic houses at Sandbanks Park were being prepared for demolition this month but members of the community rose up in protest to save them. This photo of one of them was taken in 2013 when it was in better condition. Tourists and photographers need to contribute to efforts such as the preservation of nature and historical sites if we want to continue to enjoy the sight of them on the countryside.
