Many of us have taken it for granted that the dark sky is a natural beauty and forgot, or never realized, that many people have no idea of what can be seen in the heavens above at night. In 2013, the Township of North Frontenac established, through funding from the County of Frontenac's Federal Gas Tax – Eco Tourism, the North Frontenac Stargazing Pad, as a common place which enables residents and
visitors to fully realize and cherish the spectacle of our night sky. The Stargazing Pad is conveniently located at 5816 Road 506, 4 kilometers south-west of the Township offices near Plevna, Ontario. The outdoor facility is fully accessible and includes parking, washrooms, electrical service, picnic tables, and information station to assist you with an enjoyable and educational visit. Our dark sky is our unique natural beauty that is not hindered by intrusive light pollution such as found in metropolitan areas. We fully appreciate what we have as a natural resource and want to preserve, improve and sustain our dark sky environment.
