Salmon, Halibut and Ling Cod fishing charters in Barkley Sound, Bamfield, Port Alberni and Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island, B.C. We fish the west coast of Vancouver Island aboard top quality Grady White vessels. Our charter vessels have top quality gear, Suzuki 4 stroke engines and the latest electronics. Our captains are Transport Canada certified, CTAG accredited professionals. We start our seas

on fishing from Nanoose Bay near Nanaimo in April through June, then move over to Port Alberni and Bamfield from June to September. When fishing from Nanoose we target Chinook and Ling Cod. In late June the sockeye arrive in Port Alberni, making this a great fishery until late July. Barkley Sound and the banks off shore from Bamfield are highly productive for Chinook, coho, halibut and ling cod. The best overall fishing is often offshore from Bamfield.

Ling Cod day for my guests today. We finished up the Chinook then headed off for lings. Barkley Sound has been generous for our guests at Eagle Nook Resort. Encountering a lot of Grey and Humback whales as well as seeing few Sea Otters. So much bait this year with the shift to colder La’ Ninia’ currents. Very good for the whole ecosystem.

Last Cast Guiding - Our Story & Values

Who we are:

Captain Pat Ahern has been operating Last Cast Guiding for 19 seasons. Our expertise is in Barkley Sound, Off Shore from Bamfield and Ucluelet. We also fish the Alberni Inlet for Sockeye and Chinook. Early season (April to June) we fish Nanoose Bay, Nanaimo and French Creek for salmon and ling cod. Pat is a fully safety trained and certified guide. He is a Certified Tidal Angling Guide (CTAG). We specialize in Chinook, Halibut, Ling Cod and Sockeye.

We operate 2 Grady White vessels. A Grady White 265 Express, licensed for 6 guests, and a Grady White 232 licensed for 4 guests. Both are powered by Suzuki four stroke engines, and are fully equipped with Lowrance GPS sounder/chart plotters. Both vessels have radar, and the Grady 265 has AIS - satellite vessel tracking for freighters which helps us ensure we avoid them in the fog! Both vessels have on-board washroom facilities.
