A BLAST FROM THE PAST: Peerless II and the Gulf Canada Era

The 1960s brought significant changes to the Muskoka Lakes, including a colorful transformation for Peerless II. During this time, the vessel operated under the Gulf Canada brand, adopting the iconic blue, orange, and white colors that many locals still recall fondly.

Jack Ricard, the second owner of Peerless II, played a key role in this chapter of its history. Photos from that era show Peerless II docked at Port Carling, standing resilient against the Muskoka winters and gleaming in the summer sun. These images capture the enduring charm of the vessel and its deep connection to the community.

Today, Peerless II continues to sail these waters, now restored and reimagined as a historic tour vessel. As we cruise past those same docks, we can’t help but reflect on its rich history and the many stories that have unfolded along the shores of the Muskoka Lakes.

THROWBACK to the 1950s: Captain Bert Brown and Peerless II

The 1950s marked the beginning of an incredible journey for Peerless II under the capable hands of Captain Bert Brown. Back then, this historic vessel wasn’t a sightseeing boat but a vital lifeline on the 3 Muskoka Lakes, delivering B/A (British American) products to cottages and businesses along the shores.

Captain Brown’s Peerless II became a familiar sight on the water, expertly navigating through all seasons to serve the Muskoka community. Fueling up the summer cottagers or ensuring supplies reached remote areas, Peerless II was a cornerstone of lakeside living.

Today, as we sail the same waters, it’s fascinating to think about the vessel’s legacy and how it has evolved from a hardworking delivery supply boat to a restored tour vessel sharing the stories of Muskoka’s past.

After all the snow dump, busy cleaning away the snow.

1) see all the snow on the dock and Peerless II
2) after all the dock snow has been removed
3) see all the 120C of snow on Peerless II
4) manual removal of the snow off Peerless II
5) almost done…..
6) all the snow has been removed from Peerless II

Sun is shining and the Captain is happy to see all the snow removed from Peerless II 🌅

DIGGING OUT AFTER MUSKOKA’s first snow dump!❄️

Winter has arrived with a bang here in Muskoka!

Around 3 feet of snow blanket the area, turning Muskoka into a winter postcard, but also making for a workout digging out today.

While Peerless II rests snugly for the season, this heavy snowfall reminds us of the beauty and resilience that comes with living in Muskoka.
