Rolf Hicker Photography I'm a 35+ year full time pro travel, nature and wildlife photographer, published in ads, magazines, books, calendars etc. around the globe. Happy photographing

I'm very passionate about photography and I hope I can brighten up your day with my pictures. I have been traveling around the globe for 35+ years as a pro travel, nature and wildlife photographer. At this stage I pull back from traveling to have time to raise my kids. I'm still in photography and offer photography workshops and photo tours in combination with my "The Artists Point B&B" around Northern Vancouver Island. http://www.vancouverislandtours.info

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿพ Wow, canโ€™t believe it!

Tomorrow marks my last tour of the 2024 season, and Iโ€™m heading back to the Broughton Archipelago and Knight Inlet one last time!
The Traditional Territory of the Kwakwaka'wakw People and the Daโ€™Naxdaโ€™xw Awaetlala First Nation in British Columbia, Canadaโ ๐Ÿฅฐ

As we approach autumn, the weather can be unpredictable, but it looks like weโ€™re in for a treat: the rain is set to clear, and the winds should calm down.

The boat is all setโ€”packed, fueled, and checked for oil. We got fresh drinking water from our own well and are ready to go on the Ambient Light.

Next up: prepping fresh food for lunch and getting the coffee and tea cups ready for an early morning start.

We will be in the truck early tomorrow and drive straight down to Alder Bay RV Park & Marina to launch the boat.

And then itโ€™s all up to the nature and wildlife gods. l
Luckily, I usually have a good relationship with them! ๐ŸŒฒโœจ

Knight Inlet in British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places I've ever experienced. Feeling blessed to spend most of my summer days here! ๐ŸŒฒโœจ

Here's a stunning drone panorama of Glacier Bay in late spring, a place I don't get to visit often, but it blows me away every time. ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ’š

I'm very proud and happy to have my images (actually two) used in this article. Yet I'm also very disappointed about the photo credit given to two photo agencies instead of the photographer.

That also means that two agencies made money on the image while I have not even received a notification for the sale, which probably turns out to be another 5$ sale after the agencies have shared all their shares.

And we wonder what is wrong with this world? ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿคฃ

More importantly, the image was photographed right here in front of 'Yalis, aka Alert Bay, in the Traditional Territory of the Namgis First Nation, off Vancouver Island North , British Columbia, Canada.

The iconic marine mammals may not belong to one species but several. Surprise!

It is such a fantastic experience to see the herring spawn right in front of the house.

Last year was the first year it was recorded in our area ever, and it is even better to get confirmed again this year.

It took a couple of days to get to Hyde Creek from Port McNeill and further down the Strait.

Watching the milt change the water's colour is magic.

It provides plenty of food for many different animals in the region, from birds to sea lions to our humpback whales.

Such exciting days!

A lone humpback whale plies the Pacific Ocean waters off Northern Vancouver Island while surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the area.

The coastal waters of Northern Vancouver Island are steeped in natural beauty and when you add wildlife such as orca whales, humpback whales, sea lions, dolphins and much more to the scenery mix you have one spectacular destination.

Always nice to see my photos chosen by National Geographic for such an important article.

How to plan a responsible whale-watching tour.

A multi-billion-pound industry, whale-watching tourism can be little-regulated around the world. So how do you choose a responsible operator?
