What is an aperitivo? Technically, an aperitivo is a pre-meal beverage, typically an alcoholic one, usually accompanied by potato chips and nuts. However, it has evolved into "Aperitivo Time," which commences around 6:00 pm when people gather at bars or other local eateries, to socialize over drinks and bite-sized snacks, like those seen in the picture above. In some cases, "Aperitivo Time" replaces dinner entirely.

"Osteria" is defined as a "relaxed local hangout, where wine is served, and sometimes serving basic plates." It is equivalent to the North American "Pub." Don't be confused because there are also pubs in Italy... How complicated eating can be!

This traditional Tirolese dish frequently found in the autonomous Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige is a fantastically delicious way to use up those leftovers. It is made with hardened bread, Speck (a savoury cured meat), spinach, and cheese that form dumplings cooked in broth and served in that broth or with a melted butter sauce, perfect for these autumn days!
