Brief History:
The Old Depot was built in 1839 by lumber baron Philemon Wright and it was later operated under the direction of E.B. In addition to functioning as a depot, it also housed the Post Office, the forge and a general store. Many "coureurs des bois", loggers and lumberjacks walked the floors of the depot as evidenced by some of the original flooring that remains today. The Old Depot was
declared a Heritage Site by the Municipality of Otter Lake because of its historical significance to the area. TODAY:
This beautifully restored log building is the perfect place to plan a getaway with friends and family or host your special event. It is surrounded by 500 acres of land boasting many trails (hiking, skiing, snowshoeing) and a small lake for fishing! There is also a private, clean, sandy beach on nearby Farm Lake perfect for swimming or evening camp fires! This rustic lodge has been rented for family reunions, weekend snowmobile & ATV trips, baby showers, anniversaries and even small weddings. The Depot has a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, electric stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, pots/pans and plenty of prep room. Everything is there for you to host your getaway or event.
