This has to be one of my favourite photos I've ever taken of our lake. The colours of the trees, the wisps of clouds perfectly reflected in the mirror-like surface of the lake and the hovering mist drifting along silently.

We shall leave this here for all to enjoy.

Farewell, Lakehouse and thank you for all the memories.

And thusly, we have come to the end of our Lakehouse Hideaway story. Thank you for being here.

This is us, Jeff and Valerie, on the day we purchased our beloved Lakehouse. And today is the day that we bid it farewell and pass it into the most capable hands of the new owners.

Congratulations to Marc and Chantal who already love the Lakehouse as much as we do and are looking forward to creating their own memories and adventures in this little piece of wild paradise.

We want to thank all our family members, friends and treasured guests who have shared this amazing place with us over the past five years. Thank you for joining us this chapter of our lives.

The flash of the sun's rays as it dips below the hills. The crisp fall evenings and the crunch of leaves underfoot. Soon the mist will roll in and the evening woodland sounds will start. Take a moment to just breath the sigh of relaxation at the end of another wonderful day at the lake.

We are just ending a fantastic mushroom season at the Lakehouse. Now, we have no idea which ones are safe to eat and which ones will make you sick (or even worse), and we wish we had taken far more photos than we did.

The woods were filled with a rainbow of fungi of all shapes and sizes. Some had small nibbles taken out of them and some were completely intact like this fella right here. And to give you an idea of just how big this one was, he stood an easy 10 cm tall and was almost as broad across his cap. Amazing!

Does anyone know anything about mushrooms? Can anyone identify what species this fella might be?

Our kitchen really is the heart of the home and is truly set up for anyone who loves to cook. We have all the tools and equipment you could possibly need for anything from a simple sandwich to an elaborate holiday feast for 10. So come and cook and enjoy!

S'mores anyone??? I personally can't think of a better dessert (or snack at anytime of the day, let's be honest). On the S'more-board this night we have: Oreos, graham crackers, marshmallows, dark chocolate, and Caramilk bars. What combination would you pick? And can you guess mine???

Each day more colour is painted onto the trees, the reds are really starting to coming to life and we can't wait to see the full explosion of Mother Nature's palette over the coming days and weeks!

Yes it's getting chilly, and it might be the first day of autumn, but it's not so cold that you can't still dip your feet in the lake to cool off a bit after a good hike on the trails! (And yes, definitely time for a pedicure).

Did you know that the lily pads also change colours in the fall? I don't remember them ever being this vibrant - look at the colours here... amazing! One more reason to get out on the lake in the fall. You never know what you'll see!

Say hello to our two international students who will be staying in Canada with us to learn English and have a truly Canadian experience. Kotara is from Japan and Salvador is from Mexico and they have already tried kayaking, jumping in the lake, hiking in the woods (and they are standing next to one of the erratic boulders we have on our trails and property).

There are many things they are looking forward to trying out (they both love maple syrup!) and we can't wait to share these new experiences with them. Welcome to Canada, boys!

Crisp blue skies, puffy clouds, a friend and two kayaks make for a great paddle around the lake. One of the things we really love about Lac Neil is how quiet and peaceful it is.

Usually it's the call of the loons, the sound of children's laughter and the rustle of the breeze through the trees which keep you company. Some days, it's also a neighbour passing by on their paddleboard with a "Hi!" and a friendly wave.

If you are looking for relaxation and quiet, then this is the place for you.

The loons are still calling to each other and taking flight, the geese are in formations overhead, honking noisily, and the squirrels are so busy chattering and collecting food for the long winter ahead.

We like to say our theme is "Rustic Luxury" and I think this photo captures that idea really well. From the antique bedside table and authentic snowshoes on the wall, to the pillowtop queen bed and soft cotton sheets and cozy duvet we believe we have created a balance that brings warmth and comfort to all who stay here.

We can all feel that hint of autumn in the air. The days are getting shorter and the sun sets a bit earlier. But the sun still shines warmly and the nights are cooler. The leaves are just starting to show the first twinges of colour and a few have even turned a fallen.

The squirrels have been very busy hoarding supplies for the coming winter and there is a different sound in the woods; the sound of anticipation and getting ready.

Honestly, this is my favourite time of the year. The lake is still warm for swimming, the crisp evenings are great to gather around the firepit and there are literally no bugs!

As we head into the last long weekend of the summer, take time to recharge and get outside! What are your plans for Labour Day Weekend?

Moody mornings on the lake. I love getting up before the sun, before the birds, before the dogs and before the rest of the family. The world is so quiet and calm and it's the perfect time to sit still and just be. It's a lovely way to start the day.

We love how our Lakehouse is nestled in the woods and how the foliage changes through the seasons. We are just starting to see some small tinges of fall colours on some of the trees, and in a few weeks time, the forest will be ablaze with reds and oranges and yellows.

What do you like best about this time of year?

A lot of thought and planning went into our new kitchen. We wanted it to look good, but just as importantly, work well and last a long time.

The most important element, in my opinion, is the appliances. We have chosen real workhorse appliances like this gas range. Why gas? Well, for several reasons including you can cook and bake even in a power failure (and being very rural, that happens more than you might expect). With four burners and a grill, it can handle anything you throw at it.

For the pretty parts, we splurged on the marble herringbone backsplash and took it right to the ceiling. The range hood was also a focal point that was important to the overall design. We wanted to bring in the wood elements of the rest of the open concept main floor and couldn't be happier with the "rustic luxury" vibe we strive for throughout the Lakehouse.

We love the crisp, clean lines of the cabinets and the durability of the quartz countertop. Overall, we are really pleased with how our new kitchen looks and works.

Our Second Home

The Lakehouse Hideaway is our home-away-from home and we love it here. At present, we are not renting out our property because of the health risks of Covid-19. We are going to maintain our page as a way to continue to share the love of our Lakehouse, our hobbies and interests and invite you to join in with us in this manner until such time as we are comfortable opening up for rentals again.

An hour from downtown Ottawa, The Lakehouse Hideaway is a luxury four-season vacation getaway for the whole family. Situated on 17.5 acres on the shores of Neil Lake, you will find everything you could wish for whether you want to just escape the city rat-race and relax, reconnect with nature, spend an active week with family, or explore a new area of our great land.

Wake up to the sound of song birds, have your breakfast on the deck watching the mist drift over the lake, hike the trails, kayak around the lake, canoe out and jump off the swim platform, splash in the pool, relax in the hot tub, throw something delicious on the BBQ, and come together around the fire at night while you hear the owls calling to each other. On rainy days, grab some cards, a board game, some puzzles or curl up with a good book or a movie. Send the kids to the bunkie for a sleep out! What an adventure they'll have!

Onsite activities will keep you busy year round. In the summer months, enjoy swimming from our swim dock, kayaking (we have two single-person kayaks), canoeing (seats two to three), hiking or bike riding on our trails (bring your own bikes), or taking a dip in our above-ground pool. Anyone in the family will enjoy spending some time in the Bunkie (there is a sleep loft for napping or reading), and also makes a great hang-out for the teenagers! During the Fall, take a hike and witness the breathtaking beauty of the changing colours. In the winter months, pull out your snowshoes and cross country skis and explore the more than 2 km of trails on the property, take a run down one of the tobogganing hills, or play some shinny hockey on the rink once the lake has frozen over. Year round luxury is right on your doorstep with our hot tub.

The Lakehouse Hideaway is 20 minutes to Mont Ste. Marie and its golf course and ski hill. Horse-back riding, dog-sledding, a variety of restaurants, artisans’s workshops and many other activities and points of interest are close at hand.

With four bedrooms and two full bathrooms, The Lakehouse Hideaway can sleep 10 people: Master Bedroom: Queen-Sized Bed; Guest Bedroom: Queen-Sized Bed; Lower Guestroom: Queen Bed; Lower Bunk Room: Two Twin Bunk Beds.

Here are the highlights:

*17.5 acres with over 2 miles of private trails (yes, I know, right?), and a creek to explore.

*900' of private lakefront with great boating (we have kayaks, a canoe and pedal boat). There isn't swimming at the lakefront (it's a bit mucky), but we have a large swim platform just out a ways that you can easily boat to and swim from.

*Four bedrooms and two full bathrooms - sleeps 10 so it's perfect for a group or extended family to all stay and play together

*All the appliances - two fridges (one on the lower level), oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer and Air Conditioning!

*Fully equipped kitchen. Just bring your food.

*Hot tub!

*Bunkie (or, as our older kids call it, The Shenanigan Shack) with a sleeping loft.

*Fire Pit with outdoor fire place and rustic lighting.

Pricing starts at $1400/week to $1900/week (50% to reserve and balance 30 days before your booking) + refundable $500 security deposit (provided no cleaning is needed after your stay). Contact us for a quote for the specific dates you’re interested in.

*Linens are included: pillows, sheets, blankets, towels and kitchen linens.

*With advance notice, a high chair can be provided.

*Gates are available for the wrap around deck to contain small children or dogs

*And yes, dogs are welcome (with certain conditions). No cats though... we have family allergies.

*No smoking, no cannabis
