To close the series, the Baker Street Band will be joined by Nathan Danser. No one has performed more with the Baker Street Band, so it is only fitting that we close the series with Nathan.

Nathan Danser is a genre bending songwriter with a wide spectrum of sounds ranging from upbeat catchy pop/rock songs to intimate folk music. His ability to produce meaningful music within various styles targets a large audience, with many songs that can be enjoyed by all.

Lately, Danser has been playing many solo acoustic shows around Alberta, performing in all sorts of venues including bars, coffee shops, outdoor festivals, restaurants and more, sharing the bill with other artists and bands from all sorts of genres. in 2017, Danser was nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter of the year in the 2nd Annual Red Deer Entertainment awards.

Since 2013, Danser has released seven EP’s and three full length LP’s. All recordings have been self-rpoduced. Danser’s music has been featured on Global TV, SAIT campus radio, and a variety of other notable media platforms.

Tonight, and before the matinee tomorrow, the Baker Street Band will be joined by the immensely talented Kayla Williams.

Kayla’s music is fun and catchy but has a depth not usually seen in most pop music that gives it meaning and longevity. Her lyrics and melodies are immediately enjoyable and she has a remarkable consistency for delivering well-written, memorable songs. She effortlessly weaves harmonies and instrumentation to craft music that can speak to anyone.

She draws her inspiration from oldies classics like the Beach Boys and Bee Gees. Her reverence for Beach Boy leader, Brian Wilson, drove her to meticulously study his work while growing up. As a result, her songs often have a flavour of days gone by.

Kayla is from Red Deer, AB and also plays in the comedy duo “The Dirrty Show”. With this act she’s toured across Canada, parts of the U.S and Australia. She has her own YouTube channel that started up in 2009 and has proven to be massive in her musical journey. Through YouTube fans she ended up connecting and meeting her idol Brian Wilson himself in 2011 who watched some of her Beach Boys covers and said “you’ve got a great voice!”. This is when her heart stopped.
She’s got a wonderful group of dedicated followers, some of which are now supporting her on Patreon, donating monthly to her weekly videos (which is now around 150 vids).

There’s lots of exciting endeavors coming soon including playing more locally and recording in studio some of her catchy original songs. Stay tuned for lots more!

Gwendolyn McCagg has designed the costumes for our series from the beginning. Her tireless dedication to this series is profound. Her work speaks for itself, as anyone who has seen these shows would attest. Out of all the cast and crew of this series, Gwendolyn might be the most valuable. Her contribution to theatre in Central Alberta is immeasurable. If she stopped designing costumes and coordinating costumes, the void left behind would likely affect all Red Deer theatre. Thank you Gwen for everything you do.

Rounding out our cast is Paul Sutherland and Jason Steele.

These two actors are the backbone of this series. They have appeared in every show, and both were instrumental in the success of this series.

Paul is perfection as an actor. His portrayal of Watson is incredibly deep and layered. Watch Paul on stage, and you will see that every thing he does is a choice that is based on the given circumstances, a total understanding of what the objective of the scene/show is, and totally correct.

Jason is Sherlock Holmes. Without a doubt, no one could fill his shoes in Central Alberta. I couldn’t imagine anyone else taking on this role, nor would I want to. He has taken this role and given it great depth.

Thank you both for everything.

Our crew is small, but mighty. We have our Assistant Stage Manager Heidi Oostenbrug, and our light designer/stage manager Braden Guido.

Heidi joins our team as an ASM, and is new to this series. She has been wonderful to work with, and demonstrates a wonderful work ethic. This will serve her well in all endeavors.

Braden is really the glue that holds this all together. The future is very much bright for him, and we have no doubt that he will excel at the highest level in whatever he chooses to do in theatre. The Edmonton theatre community is about to get an all-star, and we look forward to watching him develop into a true master of his craft.

06/20/2019

Returning for a 6th time are Lorraine Stuart and Trysten Luck.

Lorraine is a wonderful person, and a charming actor. Her performance as Mrs. Hudson was perfect. Her commitment to the series has been a motivating force for everyone.

Trysten is not only a gifted actor that created perhaps our most likable character, but he also choreographed all of the fights in this series. No real way to thank him enough for his contribution and dedication.

06/20/2019

Next we have Sarah Kuhl and Lee Weselak.

Sarah is a powerful and dynamic actor who has a tremendous amount of potential. She came in like a storm for her audition and continues to put forward compelling and complex performances.

The joy that Lee shows while playing someone truly evil is delightful to watch. He is easily one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Supremely talented and wonderful to work with.

06/20/2019

Matthew Taylor and Rebecca Lozinski return to the series for their 3rd and 4th time respectively.

Matt is a gifted actor that understands the sense of play and exploration necessary to create a well rounded performance. His ability elevated the abilities of the rest of the cast and crew.

Rebecca is returning the the series with her 4th different character. One of the hardest working actors in Central Alberta, Rebecca always consistently puts everything she has into a role.

06/20/2019

As Adler and Moran we have Kirstin Merriman and Ryan Mattila.

Kirstin brings a beautiful humanity to Irene Adler. Her performance grounds this production, and her positivity makes those around her feel welcome.

Ryan does more shows as an actor in Red Deer than anyone else. There is a clear reason for that: he is amazingly talented and an absolute pleasure to work with.

06/20/2019

Next we have Michael Leek and Mackenzie Hudson.

It was been a joy to watch Michael grow as an actor. He is appearing in his 4th show as a 4th character. Michael approaches acting with a “yes, let’s” attitude, which will serve him well in future shows.

Mackenzie is the hardest worker in the cast. Her work ethic is unparalleled. She attacks each role she is given, and pushes herself to do better every rehearsal.

06/20/2019

Time to introduce our cast and crew. First up are Jaret Pack and Eric Wilkerson.

Jaret is a wonderfully energetic and positive performer. He has an uncanny ability to understand exactly what a scene needs, and executes it to perfection. He is always a joy to work with, and we look forward to watching his career in theatre grow.

Eric is a newcomer to this series, but has been a supporter since the beginning. Eric brings a wonderful sense of play to this show, and has the great ability to add to a scene without taking away the attention.

Opening night is tonight!

Appearing with the Baker Street Band tonight will be local artist Emily Vay. Emily Vay is an indie artist/vocalist based out of Red Deer AB, where her career started studying and performing opera. Throughout her classical background, Emily sang in both provincial and national level competitions and festivals. A promising young opera singer, Emily was accepted into an Opera Program at the University of British Columbia for fall 2017 where she had planned on receiving her undergraduate in Opera Performance.

It was at this time that Emily began performing and co-writing with Factor Funded artist Damian La Grange. She then realized that the path she should follow wasn't classical music, and began to venture deep into the contemporary stream. Within a few months of making this decision, Emily and Damian opened for platinum artist Coleman Hell, and Factor Funded rapper Transit 22.

Emily has since garnered over 59,00 streams from her solo single “Time Travellers” produced by Damian La Grange. Time Travellers is featured on Spotify’s Folk & Friends playlist and is also on regular rotation on Red Deer's 106.7 The Drive.
