Yesterday, the historic Hawaii Martin Mars water bomber embarked on it's final journey from Sproat Lake to Patricia Bay while paying tribute to the communities it protected and served for decades; one last time. Soaring the coast and arriving in style no better way than escorted by the RCAF Snowbirds and welcomed by hundreds of spectators at Victoria International Airport and the British Columbia Aviation Museum.

Shout-out to the incredible team at Coulson Aviation - Next Gen Firefighting for their dedication in preparing this treasured aircraft for it's final journey. And, congratulations to the flight crew for a successful flight and all those who worked to give the Mars the iconic retirement flight it deserved! We look forward to visiting the Hawaii Mars at it's new home in the British Columbia Aviation Museum's wildfire exhibit this year. Thank you BCAM for preserving an iconic piece of aviation history and continuing the Hawaii Mars' legacy for future generations to enjoy.

On Sunday, August 11, the Hawaii Martin Mars; the historic water bomber, will embark on it's final flight proudly piloted by a dedicated flight crew including two Harbour Air pilots: Rick Matthews and alumni pilot Peter Killin.

The iconic water bomber’s final flight will depart August 11th from Sproat Lake in Port Alberni and fly to the Saanich Inlet, landing in Patricia Bay beside Victoria International Airport. The historic aircraft will be preserved by the British Columbia Aviation Museum as part of a new B.C. wildfire aviation exhibit.
