The aurora borealis came out to play last night. We have been lucky to see these more than once this year!

Have you ever wondered how they work?

The aurora borealis is the result of charged particles caught in solar winds colliding with earth's upper atmosphere, as theses particles collide with nitrogen and oxygen they produce brilliant light shows visible in far northern and southern skies.

We are crossing our fingers that winter makes a comeback soon!❄️🤞

Although the conditions aren’t ideal for winter activities at this time, keep the following things in mind if you decide to venture onto any of the trails in Gros Morne National Park over the coming days.

✔️The ground is icy and the snow is crusty – it would be a good idea to wear hiking crampons or grips on your boots if you decide to embark on a trail.

✔️The ice on ponds and rivers may be thinner than expected in some places after the mild temperatures and rain. Before you consider crossing a pond or river, make sure that it is safe to do so. The Canadian Red Cross recommends an ice thickness of at least 15 centimetres for walking across the ice. You can find more information on ice safety by visiting the Canadian Red Cross website.
