From the last stop for the Underground Railroad to the Salem Chapel where Harriet Tubman worshipped, Black history is everywhere in St. Catharines.

Salem Chapel BME Church
📍92 Geneva St.
↳ Built in 1855 and was a significant part of abolition in Canada. It is a national historic site and is regarded as one of Ontario's oldest Black churches.

The Old Court House
📍101 King St.
↳ Was used as a venue for lectures and demonstrations by renowned speakers and visitors involved in the anti-slavery movement in the 1850s

William Hamilton Merritt Monument
📍Corner of St. Paul Street West and McGuire Street.
↳ The founder of the Welland Canals was also an abolitionist who helped Black refugees settle in St. Catharines
