🚂✨ Discover Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail: A Journey Through History, Nature & Adventure 🚂✨

The Iron Horse Trail, a recreational trail in Alberta, Canada, traces the route of a disused Canadian National Railway line. The trail winds through diverse landscapes, including rolling hills, farmlands, and forests. As it passes through small towns and communities, it offers ample opportunities to explore local culture and history.

🚂 Western Region - https://www.travellakeland.ca/.../alberta.../western-region

The western region of the Iron Horse Trail begins in Waskatenau, offering unique access to the Trans Canada Trail, the Iron Horse Trail, Victoria Trail (also known as the Carlton Trail), and the Redwater Sandhills. This section is ideal for the curious adventurer, providing diverse trail experiences all from a single location.

🚂 North East Region -- https://www.travellakeland.ca/.../alber.../north-east-region

The Northeast region offers backcountry access to Alberta's renowned boreal forest and is ideal for active outdoor adventurers. With numerous sub-trails connecting to the Iron Horse Trail, it provides the perfect opportunity to explore Alberta’s backcountry in a truly authentic way.

🚂 South East Region -- https://www.travellakeland.ca/.../alber.../south-east-region

The Alberta Iron Horse Trail in the Southeast region is one of Alberta’s most stunning areas of Alberta. While it may not have mountains, but the foothill type of terrain boasts breathtaking landscapes that capture the beauty of the province.

▶︎ Kalyna Country Forts Guide

Former Forts and Trading Posts within the Kalyna Country Ecomuseum

An especially important part of Kalyna Country’s heritage are the former fur trading posts that once used to operate along the North Saskatchewan River between Heinsburg and Fort Saskatchewan.

In all, the remnants of six outposts can be found in Kalyna Country dating from the times of the fur trade. The first of these, Fort George-Buckingham House, east of Elk Point, flourished from 1792 to 1802, while the last, Fort Victoria, was founded in 1864, and finally closed in 1897. Both of these have been developed as provincial historic sites for tourists to enjoy while visiting east central Alberta. Whereas a million-dollar interpretive centre at the location of the former documents the life of the early fur traders, the latter offers a more inter-active experience featuring costumed interpreters and the oldest building in Alberta still standing on its original foundation. Neither is to be missed by anyone wanting to learn more about the pivotal role played by the Kalyna Country region in the formative years of the province and the city of Edmonton.
