Tour des Iles is back for its 9th year on June 17th & 18th!
This annual event brings the opportunity to visit our neighbouring Gulf Islands at convenient times to explore and enjoy events.

NEW THIS YEAR - We have passenger boats leaving from 2 different Salt Spring locations:

FERNWOOD DOCK : A 10-passenger boat will leave 4 times a day (first one 8:45)am from Fernwood making that short 30 minute trip to Montague Harbour on Galiano at a cost of $15.75 (an open boat, very convenient for bringing bicycles.)

GANGES: A larger boat will be leaving from Ganges Harbour, arriving at magical Saturna Island after 1 hour 45 minutes, making stops along the way at Sturdies Bay on Galiano, and Mayne Island with its marvellous Japanese Garden. Cost $21.

A third boat will be making direct trips from Ganges to Pender Island which has, among other attractions, an 18-hole golf course.

Help protect our island and prevent wildfires.

Effective at noon today, Thursday, June 8, 2023, campfires will be prohibited on Salt Spring Island.
This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human caused wildfires and protect public safety.
Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited on Salt Spring Island. This prohibition will be in place until October 31, 2023, or until the order is rescinded.
Specifically, this prohibition refers to the following activities:
- “Category 1 open fire” (campfires)
- “Category 2 open fire” (backyard and incinerator burning)
- “Category 3 open fire” (machine pile)
In addition to open fires being prohibited, the following activities and equipment are also restricted:
- Fireworks;
- Sky Lanterns;
- Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description;
- Binary Exploding Targets;
- Air curtain burners;
- Tiki and similar kind of torches; and
- Chimineas.

This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.

Anyone who lights, fuels, or uses an open fire when a fire prohibition is in place or fails to comply with an open fire prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150 or, if convicted in court, be fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail. If the contravention causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be subject to a penalty of up to $100,000 and ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.

To report a wildfire, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone. For the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air quality advisories, go to: http://www.bcwildfire.ca

Italian born Canadian singer songwriter Alfie Zappacosta performs live at Beaver Point Hall, Salt Spring Island. His signature live concert experience is an intimate and intense performance of rich soaring vocals, powerful lyrics and melodies.
Join us for an intimate evening with multi–Juno Award and American Music Award winner Alfie Zappacosta as he delivers impressive renditions of his life’s work, a unique blend of acoustic, smooth jazz and pop.
Zappacosta’s legacy of 80’s hits brought him to the world's attention. "Start Again”, “When I Fall in Love Again” and “Nothing Can Stand In Your Way” became staples on adult contemporary radio.
These hit songs were originally written for acoustic and jazz presentations. Writing for radio began to rub against his musical integrity and he became frustrated with the demands of music trends.
In 1996, Zappacosta broke from the stereotype and began to write the lyrics and melodies that were authentically him. His recordings since 1996 reflect his mastery at romance, his insight into relationships and his advanced knowledge of music.”
In the fifth decade of his career Zappacosta forges ahead in a compelling fashion, his passion for music and urge to be creative, delivering his finest work.
