Here is the second video release of what was discovered.

In August 2021, a team of Gwaii Haanas staff, Parks Canada archaeologists, and Haida Gwaii Museum experts went to work on SG̱ang Gwaay after artifacts had be...

In 2018, a hurricane force windstorm revealed long-hidden artifacts at SG̱ang Gwaay. The storm upended massive tree roots that exposed ancient longhouse floo...

Nathan Slater - Ocean Sound Kayaking lead guide - will be presenting his 3500 km journey to Alaska on March 21st, at the Valhalla Pure in Squamish.

From April 16th to September 1st, 2023, Nathan Slater and Sanesh Iyer paddled a pair of sea kayaks from Victoria, BC to Yakutat, Alaska, covering a distance of 1935 nautical miles (3500km). Their journey led them through remote communities, abandoned industrial towns, natural hot springs, and to the base of North America’s largest tidewater glacier.

Partnering with BCMT, Nathan is presenting the trip highlights (and lowlights!) live at Valhalla Pure Outfitters - Squamish March 21st from 6:30-8:00pm. Tickets and more information can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/935746644877890?ref=newsfeed

If you're not in Squamish, don't fret! BCMT is hosting Nathan at our cross club meeting on Zoom — April 2nd at 7:00pm. RSVP on our site: https://www.bcmarinetrails.org/event/all-members-cross-club-meeting/

Ah Haida Gwaii...

"Sunrise from the Dunes" This is a very recent photo. I think it is a remarkable photo for both what it shows and what it doesn't show. It is a nice view of the sun breaking over the horizon in from of Cape Chroustcheff. It shows nicely how the sand has been washed up into the dune grasses. This is the type of view my family and I have been enjoying and photographing for over 33 years. But even more importantly I think is what it doesn't show: The tall bright red survey stakes that are spread out all along the dunes or any of the construction that is proposed to take place on the beautiful stretch of foreshore. I sure hope it will be protected for the benefit of all Islanders.

I have been working on my web page photo gallery with many updated photos. Please have a look at: laurastruenorth.com

Ḵ’uuna Llnagaay had up to 30 longhouses, 22 frontal poles, 18 single mortuary poles, 3 double mortuary poles, 5 memorial poles, and 5 mortuary figures. You can still see the remains of this ancient village along the shores of Gwaii Haanas.
