While many are celebrating Canada Day, we spent the day tending to the land, checking on our corn and squash sprouts, and putting up new fence posts to protect this sacred space.

For many Anishinaabe people, July 1st is not a day of celebration, it's a time to reflect, to remember, and to reclaim. This garden is a living act of resistance, love, and healing. Every sprout is a story. Every seed is a teaching.

Chi-Miigwech to all who continue to support this journey.

The seeds have been planted in the Three Sisters Garden.

Today, we carefully placed corn, squash, and to***co into the earth — each one carrying teachings, stories, and responsibilities. Planting these seeds is more than gardening; it’s a connection to culture, to land, and to the ancestors who have done this for generations.

We’re excited for what’s to come — to watch the garden grow, to care for it with love and intention, and to continue learning with every step. This space is becoming a place of growth, not only for food but for knowledge, healing, and community.

Chi-miigwech to everyone who continues to support and walk alongside us. Your hands, hearts, and presence mean everything.

Indigenous Peoples Day is more than a date on the calendar, it is a living reminder of who we are, where we come from, and the responsibilities we carry forward. It is a day to honour our ancestors, celebrate our culture, and reaffirm our connection to the land, the language, and the stories that root us.

We are still here. Our roots are deep, our voices are strong and rising, and our stories will continue to grow.

Chi-miigwech to all who walk with us, in respect, in reconciliation, and in celebration.

🌿☀️⛈️ From working in the hot sun, through the rain, blackflies, and mosquitoes — we've come a long way in just one year.

We want to send out a huge Chi-Miigwech to everyone who helped out with the Three Sisters Garden. Your hard work, time, and good energy made this space what it is today.

It wouldn’t look like this without you all! 💚🌽🏵️

We’re using fallen trees to build our Three Sisters Garden beds, a natural and sustainable choice.

The logs help hold water, add nutrients to the soil, and reduce waste by using what the land already offers.

It’s about listening to the land. Giigidowag mitigoog, giishpin bizindawadwaa — the trees are speaking, if you can hear them.

🌽🌱 Bird’s-Eye View of the Three Sisters Garden Growing Area Taking Shape at Hiawatha! 🌱🌽

We’re excited to share this overhead look at our new Three Sisters Garden growing area, now taking shape at Hiawatha! Designed in harmony with Anishinaabe teachings, this space will soon be home to corn, beans, and squash, the Three Sisters who grow best together, supporting one another just like family.

This isn’t just about growing food. It’s about reconnecting with the land, honouring ancestral knowledge, and creating a space for cultural learning, healing, and community.

Chi-miigwech to everyone who’s helping this vision grow from the ground up. We can’t wait to welcome you into this space. 🌻🌎
