Available today, the first half of Mac Miller's discography is finally released on colored vinyl.

Fred's prides itself in our love for Mac Miller and his music through each of his eras. Release dates are also better served as excuses to speak about the artists we at the store care about, and this is definitely the case. We are so glad to finally be able to stock the early parts of his career, now giving us the ability to have something in store for any Mac fan. If you are one of our customers who have been long awaiting being able to pick up some of the early Mac Miller than today is your day, or someone who has been waiting to get the rest, call down or visit us in store. Rest in Peace Mac Miller, it's hard to believe it's been over 6 years. Gone but never forgotten.

Born in Dundalk, Ireland half way between Dublin and Belfast, founded by Sean Bradley and Tiffanie George, The Dandelion Few succeed on multiple levels with the six song CDEP, "Ovv Vrese & Suond". Pronounced, Of Verse & Sound, Dandelion Few capture a period; a unique capsule in time when coffee-house pass the hat and Sunday afternoon at the pub served as inspirational environment for idealists, young poets and songwriters spreading their wings. Such hubs of artistic expression had curious qualities, empathetic patrons leaning in, determined to soak up every word, each note and nuanced vocal inflection.

These songs hang together, portraits revealing poor old sods, rich in spirit, their souls old, battered but never defeated. "Harp And Ship Shop Courage" is a rock-solid opener featuring all the potent qualities required, Sean's sympathy for the "neighborhood tough" played out beautifully in the ebb & flow vocal style, tender in all the right places.

"Prussian Blue" continues on this theme, a character in the downward spiral of intense reflection, "Twas on the darkest roads I walked I found my way back home". But it's "The Stinging Light" that hits the bullseye with its reflections on love, lust, angst and resolve, a true 'damn the torpedos attitude' expressed by the hero; "But real love can be a hurricane that wrecks the ravaged heart or it's the citrus smell of orange peel at a picnic in the park'., a prelude to the summary.

A cinematic, distorted slice of psychedelic rock introduces the closing track, a prayer-song called "Oh, Sacred Heart Of Mine", in which the singer, perhaps having hit bottom asks the higher power for one more chance but not without sure doubt it will ever come, "But the lips on the picture say nothing at all, and the rosary beads I let scatter and fall as I waited for your call".

The beauty of these 6 songs lies in the humanity of its subjects and characters, expressed and clearly felt by one of their own. The vocal harmony is superb, never unwavering, and folkies will be reminded of Richard & Linda Thompson, early Fairport Convention, John Martyn and groups in that vein.

The song “Tom Coopers Waltz’ was written as a gift to family and friends of Tom Cooper of Twillingate from his Grandfathers while “The Fate Of The Terra Nova” is based on a poem written by Ernie Collins of Durrell regarding the sinking of the sealing ship the MV Terra Nova in March of 1960.

Just let me hear some of that rock n’ roll music....

My pal, Derm and I were reminiscing about a university hall show given by Levon Helm and his All-Star Band in Montreal in or around 1980. Derm had a little too much to consume and throughout the second set kept yellin’, “Play some Chuck Berry!!”. He repeated this mantra for at least 3 or 4 songs and finally Levon stood up, glared out at Derm and said, “Son...you can’t play rock n’ roll without playin’ Chuck Berry.”
