TravelCo PSA: Read this, it's important...
Today we went to the Passport office downtown Edmonton. We had our photos taken at the Photo shop right there at Canada Place. Remember if the photos are not right you may have to come back, that's why we get them there.
So we asked how long the lineup was and how long, we were told about 3 hours. That was at 8:55. It too us till 9:35 to get to the front of the line, not inside, just the front of the line.
Then we were called up to the nice lady sitting outside the Passport office. First thing she said is when are you travelling. We said not till September. Ok, she said go to the Services Canada office at the north end of the building. HUH? She said if you're not in a hurry, just go there and our Passports would arrive in early May. She said this line up was for people that couldn't wait and were travelling soon.
I told her we just waited in line, just to be told that only emergency or (QUICK) requests come to that office. She said if we waited there, we would have to come back at 12 noon ( 2 hours or so) or if we went to Service Canada, we would probably be all done by then.

So, we went down the hall to Service Canada and the lineup was about 12 people, not 150 people. She had given us a note that said we had already waited for 1.5 hours in line. So, we checked in and were told to have a set it should be withing the hour. Took 5 minutes and a lady called my name, I said yes, and she said we had an appointment. So, the guy checking us in entered us as an appointment because we had stood in line for 1.5 hours already. That was nice... we were in and out of the ladys cubical in 10 minutes....

So If you have everything and it's just a renewal, go to the Service Canada office at the north end. You can also make a reservation for that office, even faster yet.
So, get everything ready and possibly make an appointment, it will save you lots of waiting time downtown at the Passport Office.

We were also told yesterday that they had a temp office set up in Westlock that was open on the first Wed of every month. Maybe other small towns have the same?

We just visited this hotel last week, it is amazing. Newly renovated and some added restaurants with a change in menu as well.

Canadian low-cost carrier Lynx Air announces it is shutting down for good.

Canadian low-cost airline Lynx Air will be officially shutting down next week and has filed for creditor protection.

The airline confirmed the news on its website, stating its last day of operation will be on Monday, February 26 at 12:01 am.

“Tremendous work was put into the growth and expansion of Lynx Air over the past two years, offering Canadians a low-cost, seamless travel experience for Canadians,” said the airline on its website.

“However, the compounding financial pressures associated with inflation, fuel costs, exchange rates, cost of capital, regulatory costs, and competitive tension in the Canadian market have ultimately proven too steep a mountain for our organization to overcome.”

Lynx has posted a “FAQ” page on its website, answering several questions about what the next steps are for passengers who have booked flights with the airline.

For passengers who have purchased tickets for this weekend up to Sunday, February 25, Lynx says they should refer to its flight status information page.

The airline said it will be “operating most flights through to Monday, February 26.”

Customers who booked flights after that date will receive a refund through their credit card company.

“If you would like to move to a flight this weekend, reach out to our contact center and they will do their best to assist you,” said Lynx.

SUNWING BAGGAGE
Allowance and size
Each passenger is permitted one personal item (N/C) on board.
Your personal item must be no larger than 40 cm x 25 cm x 16 cm (16” x 10” x 6”).

Examples of personal items:
• Purse or handbag
• Messenger bag, briefcase or laptop bag (holding a laptop) • Small or children-sized backpack or a small duffel (under seat sizing)
• Camera bag (containing photographic equipment)

In addition to one personal item, parents travelling with infants can bring a diaper bag on board as long as it complies with the weight and size restrictions stated above.

Carry-on baggage (overhead bin sizing) can be purchased for a fee of $25 each way, tax included, and can be purchased in advance of your flight date or at the airport. Your carry-on item cannot exceed 5 kgs (11 lbs) and must be no larger than 51 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm (20” x 16” x 9”).

Examples of carry-on items:
• Small suitcase
• Duffel bag
• Backpack

Please refer to the CATSA website for information on what’s permitted in your carry-on baggage.

Any bags that exceed the weight and/or size limit must be prepared for check-in and excess baggage fees will apply.

PACKING TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
We recommend packing important items in your carry-on baggage in the unlikely event that your checked baggage is delayed or lost. Examples of important items to pack in your carry-on include:

Travel documents or ID
Health insurance information
Cash and credit cards
Keys
Personal electronics
DESTINATION WEDDINGS

On a personal note, the last time I printed out these restrictions it was 9x11x5 for personal item and 9x26x20 for ($25) Carry on.
We travel with small backpacks and it has never been a problem. That being said its a good thing to check the baggage allowance with your carrier and or ask TravelCo what the current allowances are at the time.
