Cancun Airport Shooting Reported.
As one journalist wrote yesterday
“I am disgusted at the irresponsible report of the incident at Cancun airport on Monday. A number of media sources reported an "alleged shooting" at the airport. All the facts so far indicate that was not the case, and it appears a tourist knocked over some signs, that if they had light bulbs in them, can sound like a firecracker going off if broken.
This is total bu****it. The media is doing whatever it can to discredit going to Cancun.”

What Does It Mean to Be a Travel Agent
The time has come...
Where I see tons of friends traveling. Friends who have asked me for quotes and never booked. Friends who want to “just ask a quick question” about a vacation they have booked elsewhere. Friends who have booked and then canceled and then go and book other vacations on their own.Friends who want free advice on navigating the ever-changing Covid regulations but have booked elsewhere.
It is inevitable. And every year I say I am not going to let it affect me. But every year it stings. And perhaps this year more than ever because for two years I basically worked for free. Because we don’t get paid unless and until a client travels. We are 100% commission-based. We do NOT make a salary. We are paid by the suppliers only when you book AND travel. So that means that for the hundreds of trips that have been canceled in the last two years (often after rescheduling for the clients multiple times), I was never paid - even after hanging on hold for sometimes up to 8 hours at a time to ensure that you received the best offer possible with regard to refunds or future travel vouchers - and then doing it AGAIN if that offer was changed further down the line.
You wouldn’t go to your mechanic and ask them to fix a mistake for free that another mechanic made. You wouldn’t go to a lawyer and expect them to file a suit for you for free, even if you don’t get the results you wanted. You wouldn’t ask your hairdresser to consult on a new style and then go to someone else to get it done. But for some reason, people don’t understand that they are doing all these things to their travel agent.
So this is my PSA on how we get paid. And my plea to be kind and thoughtful. Know that we are professionals and deserve to be paid for our time just like any other professional. I invest a ton of time and money into being as knowledgeable as possible to help my clients. I absolutely love my job and I believe our friends and family are not trying to hurt me but perhaps don’t understand how it works for Travel Advisors.
So take this friendly PSA for what it is.

Hi everyone Well bad news on the transat front today. I found out that Transat has cancelled multiple flights from Halifax to the Caribbean for many destinations this sun season. 😢 They have the remaining flights:
1 flight to Punta Cana
2 flights to Cancun
1 flight to Cayo Coco.
These are supposed to run until mid-april. 🤷‍♀️
Watch for email from accounting / transat for any clients you may have that are now cancelled. They will issue refunds to original form of payment. But could take up to 4 weeks 🤦‍♀️

Travel Bug Anyone ?????
Since becoming a travel agent a year ago business is very slow. However it’s starting to break slowly but surely. Amazing deals out there but you’d have to give me an idea on what it is you want for your dream vacation. For me, I love Mexico and would live there tomorrow. We all hear stories of travel night mares I know but I cannot live my entire life in this bubble. I’m booked to leave on April 1st and have every intention to go. I noticed tonight while searching for a client that the once named Gran Porte Real is now called the Wyndham Alltra. I stayed there a few years back and loved both the rooms and hotel location. This is now an adults only resort with amazing Mexican and Italian A la crate restaurants. The Buffet too is very impressive and hosts various world cultural nights. One of my favourites was Greek and Brazilian nights.

I realize people are still somewhat worried but rest assured people are booking for the Spring already. I know myself and my group of friends are planning on Mexico. I’m booked and will literally crawl off this island to get to my Mexican oasis. Will I take all the necessary precautions still.
