NEW TOUR: 2024 SPIRIT BEAR CONSERVANCY KAYAKING EXPEDITION
When: June 15-26th (12 days)
Where: Klemtu- Great Bear Rainforest (Kitasoo Xas'Xais Territory)
Kayaking in the Great Bear Rainforest offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore one of the most pristine natural environments on Earth. This vast region, spanning Canada's Pacific Coast, is a verdant expanse of old-growth temperate rainforest, rich in biodiversity and cultural history. It's a place where the land and sea fuse in a labyrinth of fjords, channels, and estuaries that provide the perfect setting for a kayaking expedition.
At the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest lies the Kitasoo Spirit Bear Conservancy, an area named in honor of the rare and magnificent spirit bear, or Kermode bear, which is a white variant of the North American black bear. The conservancy is managed by the Kitasoo/Xai'xais First Nation, who have lived in harmony with this land for millennia and are deeply connected to its ecosystems and wildlife.
In the Kitasoo Spirit Bear Conservancy, kayakers can quietly paddle through calm waters, with the lush, emerald forest canopy overhead. Here, the silence is only broken by the sound of your paddle slicing through the water, the call of a raven, or perhaps the splash of a seal diving nearby. The conservancy is not only a sanctuary for the spirit bear but also for countless other species, including grizzlies, wolves, eagles, and salmon, all of which play a role in this intricate ecological tapestry.
The experience of kayaking here is more than just a physical journey; it's a chance to witness a landscape that has remained largely untouched by human hands. The mist that often hangs over the water adds a layer of mystique to the journey, as if one is paddling through a living dream.
Our collaboration with Spirit Bear Lodge ensures insightful local expertise, comfortable lodgings for two nights, and seamless water taxi services to/from our start and end points.
