Ten years ago, Maelyn Hurley created a small event to bring friends and local artists together to sell their work. Over the past decade, this bi-annual event has blossomed into a cornerstone of our community, featuring over 200 artisans across more than 25 venues in the Waterfront District.

Now operating as a non-profit, the Craft Revival is led by a dedicated board of directors who work tirelessly to bring this incredible event to life. Its economic impact is immense, supporting local businesses, attracting visitors, and helping hundreds of entrepreneurs launch their ventures.

This Sunday, November 24th, from 10 AM to 4 pm, marks the annual Holiday Craft Revival. Along with finding the perfect locally crafted holiday gifts, visitors can enjoy amazing performances and live music throughout the day. Be sure to stop by all the event’s “hot spots” for a chance to win a sailing experience for two with Superior Sails!

Join us in celebrating creativity, community, and holiday spirit at the Waterfront District’s most anticipated event of the season!

Summer outdoor live music festivals add to our community vibrancy and we’re excited to see the evolution of this annual festival in 2025 to reach more live music followers.

Stay tuned as they announce more on the 2025 festival in the coming weeks and months!

Currently, behind the scenes, preparations are underway for the development of another substantial music festival in Thunder Bay. This year, the event will follow the same pattern as Country on the Bay as previous years. After three successful years of the Country on the Bay festival, the management team has made the decision to rebrand the event to accommodate a more diverse and enduring format. The festival will now feature a wide range of musical genres, ensuring that it can cater to the diverse tastes of the community. This decision has been made to expand the festival’s appeal and ensure its long-term viability.

In the coming weeks, festival organizers and partners will announce a newly branded festival. This rebranding will enable the festival to explore a broader range of themes, including country, rock, classic hits, and beyond. By embracing this rebranding, the festival aims to meet the high demand for such events in our city.

Although the Country on the Bay brand concluded in 2024, the new brand will build upon the festival’s successes in the future. Utilizing the exceptional layout and functionality of Fort William Historical Park, including its rich history of hosting major events, the available space for ticket holders, vendors, and performances is unparalleled. The partnership with the Fort continues, as does the same scheduled dates in July that the festival has committed to over the next few years. The newly branded festival will be on July 18th, 19th and 20th.

Moving forward, VIP ticket holders with Country on the Bay will be notified of the ticket information, dates, and performers from the newly branded festival first. Honoring the commitment of a presale advantage, previous VIP ticket holders will be notified via email in the coming weeks.

There will be a lot to look forward to with next year’s newly branded festival. Organizers have listened to the feedback by previous festival patrons, sponsors and vendors and intend to take this new festival to a new level. This will very quickly become one of Thunder Bay’s premiere events going forward. Stay tuned for a major announcement in the coming weeks.

This week’s spotlight attraction is the Thunder Bay Military Museum.

This attraction collects, catalogs, preserves, displays, and interprets the rich military history of Northwestern Ontario.

Located inside the O'Kelly VC Armoury on Park Avenue, the building was originally constructed as part of Canada’s initiative to supply arms to militias and create local training facilities. This two-storey Beaux-Arts structure, which resembles a medieval fortress, still serves as an active armoury, housing multiple military units, cadet corps, and the Thunder Bay Military Museum.

Amanda and Malcolm Hope purchased pie.ology from its original owner in 2018, selling their hand pies at the Thunder Bay Country Market and greatly expanding their menu options as time went on. In 2021, they opened their May Street location as demand for their hand pies outgrew their original kitchen.

Using locally sourced produce wherever possible, they offer both fresh ready to eat and frozen take and bake hand pies for you to enjoy at the market or at home. Be sure to stop by either location to see why country market goers keep coming back!

Did you know that Memorial Avenue was officially named in 1926 following a petition by the Port Arthur Rotary Club? They requested the city of Port Arthur to plant trees along the highway separating the two towns to honour the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives in World War One and to rename that section of the road.

To learn more and pay your respects to those military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice, download driftscape tour app and explore the Naval, Military, and Air Force tour in Thunder Bay. Please note that the tours are listed in alphabetical order.
