This active working amethyst mine is located 60 KM East of Thunder Bay Ontario. Visitors can learn about the history, geology and mineralogy of Canadian amethyst, dig their own amethyst and purchase hand-made amethyst crafts all in one visit. No tools or special clothing are required; just bring your sense of adventure. A large digging area, that contains lots of amethyst is yours to explore on a

"pick your own” basis. Amethyst Mine Panorama is open for tours and digging from June 1 until October 1, seven days a week, weekends and all holidays included. This is an outdoor attraction, so dress for the weather. Take Highway 11/17 East from Thunder Bay for 60 KM. Turn North onto East Loon Road and follow the signs to adventure.

This sheet metal apprentice visited Panorama while in Thunder Bay participating in the 51st Annual Sheet Metal Apprentice Competition. snowblower

About 15 sheet metal apprentices are in Thunder Bay this week for the 51st Annual Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Competition. The competition involves recreating a model snowblower, pictured, and the winners will earn a spot in the national competition. (CBC News)

Ticket officers should have been informed. They have been giving out tickets!

Starting today (Tuesday), there is now free two-hour parking in the North Core due to construction. This is in designated metered spaces only, which are clearly marked.

Starting Thursday, tickets will be issued across Thunder Bay for any vehicle that is not in compliance with parking regulations. This bring to a close an educational period, where vehicles and drivers were given warnings.
