We were in New Brunswick recently and took a trip to Hopewell Rocks in The Bay of Fundy. I couldn't help but admire all the structural steel work that went into the staircase to take visitors to the ocean floor. We'll be seeing lots of steel soon!

We'll be using four 40ft high cube shipping containers and two 20ft high cube containers for the Tobermory Container Home!

This will reduce the amount of lumber required for construction, lowering the buildings carbon footprint during the construction phase. The containers are one-trip used containers, so we will be recycling something that would have eventually end up as scrap, rotting away in some shipping port.

Hugelkultur is a great way to compost AND grow - all in one! It's also a great way to store moisture in hot and dry climates.

Hugelkulturs are no-dig raised beds with a difference. They hold moisture, build fertility, maximise surface volume and are great spaces for growing fruit, vegetables and herbs.

When it comes to container home construction, there is a lot of detail involved! Here we see two shipping container corners joined with steel tubing reinforcement and both are welded in place to the steel plate set in the foundation.

The will employ and building systems. The top deck will also act as seasonal shading for the main floor south wall glazing. Convection heating will also help with air flow and cooling when the ductless HVAC system is not needed. will be incorporated into the landscaping in order to provide additional home comfort.
