These two well seasoned travelers are my cousins...well Ana is my cousin and Kris is my married in cousin lol.

"We just returned from a short (4 day/3 night) getaway to the Jewel Palm Beach – Punta Cana. Our stay was January 2 – 5, 2024.

We have travelled to the Dominican Republic a few times in the past and this was by far our best experience.

The resort itself is smaller than others we have stayed at, which was great because you can get anywhere in less than a 5 minute walk. At the same time, even though the resort was small, it never once felt crowded.

We stayed at the Club Level. We were immediately greeted by a concierge when we got off the transfer bus and were escorted to the Club Level lounge. The check-in process was the smoothest and most relaxing we have ever experienced.

Our room was a garden view. The building we were in (Building 1) was right next to the spa so we were able to enjoy the sounds of the fountains on our balcony. The room itself had a single king bed and was very spacious. There also was a very large double rain shower. The mini bar was well stocked and we always had fresh towels. In addition the room was turned down every evening.

There are 2 very large pools in the main pool area. The one closest to the main building seems newer or at least was re-done recently. The one closer to the beach did seem older and needed some repair. However the pools were very large, and never crowded. The pool closer to the beach has a large swim-up bar. The beach area is large. There are two areas, one for Club Level and a general area. We never had issues finding chairs with shade.

In addition to this, there are two smaller pools for the Club Level. One is for adults only and was always a good spot for a late afternoon relaxing swim. The second Club Level pool is for families. Both Club Level pools had lounges with a bar (best drinks were made at these bars).

There is also an open-air restaurant next to the Family Club Level pool right at the beach. This restaurant does a’ la carte breakfast and lunch for Club Level and then opens to everyone as a Steakhouse for dinner. Great lunch options for a nice sit down meal at the beach.



The beach area is large. There are two areas, one for Club Level and a general area. We never had issues finding chairs with shade. There are no towel cards or bracelets at this resort. They have plenty of clean towels at every pool and you can take new ones as many times as you need. These were constantly re-stocked. The beach itself is soft powdery white sand. The water is fairly shallow and was not rough during our stay. There is a dolphin experience area and snorkeling area just off shore. In addition many of the boat tour operators park their boats just outside of the swimming area of the resort so you will see many catamarans and party boats going by – usually with some fun music. This didn’t bother us at all, but keep this in mind if you are looking for a quiet beach. There are also a lot of people walking up and down the beach selling everything from cigars/souvenirs to para-sailing/catamaran tours. They weren’t too pushy, but there did seem to be a lot of them.

We walked down the beach past the resort areas and there are some local shops around if you are looking for souvenirs that are cheaper than at the resort gift shops.



There are 5 a’ la carte restaurants at this resort and a buffet. The a’ la carte restaurants do not take reservations. They all open at 6pm and are first come first served. During our stay there were only ever 2 a’ la carte restaurants open at a time. We have kids at home and are used to eating earlier, so 6pm was no issue for us. Even arriving a little later we never had a wait. If you come after 7pm there would be a wait, but most people would wait in/around the lobby bar.

We went to the Japanese restaurant twice and the Mexican restaurant. The Japanese was very good food, but remember you can order more than 1 appetizer per person – the portion sizes of the appetizers were small. The Mexican restaurant had a lot of options, we found the food a little salty, but still good. Overall we liked the Japanese better. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to try the Italian or Steakhouse.

The buffet restaurant at breakfast had a lot of typical breakfast buffet options: pancakes, breads, cold cereals, egg/omelette station. The coffee at the buffet was not the best, sometimes better to get your coffee at the coffee shop next door.

Overall the buffet was large, food was re-stocked quickly and very clean.


There are many bars throughout the resort (Lobby, Swim-up Pool, Club Level pools, and pop-up bar near the entertainment at night). All had large drink selections. The one gem was the Club Level beach restaurant – best mojitos we had throughout the stay.



The gym was small, but had enough machines for about 6-7 people. We did not visit the spa unfortunately.

Overall this resort exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend the Jewel Palm Beach – Punta Cana.


One final note: during this trip we were not asked for the $20USD departure tax". (this is because they travelled with Air Transat who cover this cost as part of their vacation packages)

Travel Tip! When booking an all-inclusive vacation, make sure your package includes transportation, not all destinations do.
When you arrive at your destination, after collecting your luggage, go straight to your designated tour operator desk or look for the representatives that are usually easy to spot. Do not get sucked into anyone calling out your airline, offering to take your bags... Everyone is looking to make some money. Answer them with a polite, no Gracias, and carry on.

If you arrive at destination and decide on private taxi service instead of the bus ride, please let the tour company know. They have your name on a list and are expecting you to be on the bus. When you don't show up, it delays everyone else. They wait for you assuming you are still in the airport. Everyone wants to get to their resort and start their vacation so don't be that guy...

Thanks for the fun stickers for our travel cups. Can't wait to use these in DR!

Keep in mind travel friends that many resorts are making efforts to be more ecologically friendly. They encourage visitors to bring reuseable cups to keep their drinks cold.

These ones were a great buy, and decent Yeti knock off. We tested them by adding ice to them overnight, and in the morning, most of the ice had melted but it was still really cold. Considering we don't plan on keep drinks in there for hours, these will do just fine. Purchased
