Machu Picchu’s construction is highly resistant to earthquakes, a crucial feature in a region with frequent seismic activity. The Incas used a technique called ashlar masonry, where stones are precisely cut to fit together without mortar. This technique not only creates a smooth, interlocking effect but also allows the stones to “dance” or move slightly during an earthquake, absorbing the shock without collapsing. When the tremors end, the stones settle back into place, keeping the structures intact and remarkably stable.
