On November 15, 2024 — finally the IRCC announced new International Student Program regulations 👩‍🎓🧑‍🎓

We won’t lie — it’s getting a bit tougher for international students with new regulations. The rules are stricter, and it’s easier to make a mistake. So before making any move ➝ question everything ➝ don’t hesitate to ask for a second opinion.

And remember, your study permit has conditions for off-campus work — like “May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria, per paragraph R186(f), (v), or (w) and must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria”.

Thinking about the Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)? Here’s what you need to know: competition is heating up as quotas fill fast.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

When does it take effect?
➝ Starting from 30 September, candidates applying to AAIP worker streams must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI).

[1] Applicants who submit an Expression of interest will receive a rank out of 100 against the Alberta Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) Points Grid.

[2] AAIP will conduct draws from the worker pool, selecting applicants based on ranking and labour market needs.

[3] Draws from the pool are expected to commence mid to late October 2024.

[4] Alberta has issued 7 463 nominations out of its 9 750 allocations, with 4 974 applications still in process.

[5] Due to the volume of in-process applications, draws covering the worker streams will likely be small for the remainder of the year.

What changes are coming, and how should we adjust our strategies starting fall 2024?

The Canadian government is signaling its intent to carefully manage immigration. By 2027, the goal is to reduce temporary residents to just 5% of the country’s population, as outlined in the 📌 upcoming 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan.

What about Study Permits?
The government has set a target for study permits issued of 437,000 in each of 2025 and 2026. This represents a 10% reduction from 2024. Here is an example:

We continue to share some insights on the H&C application approvals – today, focus on a few main factors about this case that make the family eligible:

[1] The best interests of the kids, especially a younger daughter (minor).
[2] The house and business were destroyed and occupied.
[3] Some close family members also moved to Canada; they have no one in Ukraine to return to.

For sure, all your statements have to be proven, like photos of notices on upcoming confiscation of the house and office, employment verification letters, pay stubs, letters of support from former business partners, and a list of evidence about smooth daughters’ integration into Canadian society and education system.

In case you missed it, here’s a quick update on the past 10 months: the government claims to have “listened to Canadians” and is now reducing immigration quotas with enthusiasm 👀 In this post let’s break down what that means for permanent residency targets in the coming 3 years: [2025] 395,000 — this is a decrease from the 485,000 target for 2024 and the earlier goal of 500,000 set for the 2024-2026 period. [2026] 380,000 — again, down from the original 500,000 target in the 2024-2026 plan. [2027] 365,000. While these numbers might seem daunting, it’s important to note that the government is actually shifting its focus. Even though overall immigration numbers are decreasing, the emphasis on economic immigration is increasing. 🚀 What’s even more significant? Over 40% of these economic immigrants are expected to come from temporary residents already living in Canada.
