ElderTreks has just finalized 7 new 'exploratory' adventures including the Phillippines. Our first 2 departures sold out in 2 weeks. So, we are now offering a 3rd departure in 2025.

Over the next 7 days we will feature 1 of our 7 new adventures daily. Here is a description of our Philippines adventure as well as photos.

The Philippines is an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, in southeastern Asia between the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Its extensive coastline are dotted with white sand beaches and turquoise blue waters that are teeming with marine life, corals and lush foliage.

In Manila, we stay at the famous Manila Hotel, longtime home of General MacArthur and shorter stays by Nelson Mandela, Marlon Brando, King Charles, the Beatles, Sammy Davis Jr. just to mention a few. We journey to the north to seldom visited Banaue, to get a glimpse into a more traditional way of life, where you find the original inhabitants of the Philippines. We travel from the stunning highlands with its steep terraces to the lowlands, including the UNESCO World Heritage town of Vigan. Learn to make the unique Filipino dishes "Laing" and "Bicol Express" the traditional way.

Witness, swim and snorkel with the world’s largest congregation of whale sharks at Donsol, see the giant sea turtles and dugong (manatee) in the Apo Island Marina Sanctuary. Island hop around El Nido which is famous for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, coral reefs, and splendid limestone rock formations.

For 2 nights we'll enjoy the 'castaway camping experience' on a pristine island where we sleep under the stars in our individual mesh tents. Our trip concludes in the paradise of Busuanga, with its white-sand beaches, coral reefs, dense rainforests, mangrove swamps and the crystal-clear lakes.

Blue Whale Sighting

Blue Whale Sighting - Sri Lanka is the only country where you can see the largest land animal (elephants) and the largest sea animal, the Blue whale. I was in Sri Lanka for 2 1/2 weeks just this last March. One of my mornings was spent searching for whales and in particular, the Blue whale, the largest animal to have ever existed. They grow up to 30 meters or 100 feet long. Their numbers worldwide are uncertain but estimated between 5,000 and 20,000. It is rare to see a Blue whale but during you visit to Sri Lanka, one of the best places in the world to see these massive sea creatures, you are actually likely to see one. During our whale excursion, we had at least 10 whale sightings, all Blue whale. There could have been a few whales or could have been the same one, truly not sure about this. Sightings ranged from very far away to very close and everything in between. Enjoy the short video! Komodo Dragon builds Nest

Komodo Dragon building a nest! During ElderTreks' 20-day Java, Bali & Komodo adventure, our group was fortunate enough to see the rare sight of the world's largest lizard building a nest. They can grow up to 12 feet or 3.5 meters. Our 2 day overnight boat journey takes us through stunning islands with 2 lizard hikes on Rinca and Komodo islands as well as incredible snorkling. Rara Sumatran Rhino

Sumatran Rhino - one of the rarest animals on earth, with no more than 100 in existent worldwide and 40 percent in Way Kambas N. P.. Your efforts through sustainable economic contribution to support the local community (reducing the temptation of poaching where a horm can go for as much as 1/2 million dollars on the black market) can help save these precious creatures that have roamed our planet for 50 million years. This is part of our mandate in running our ElderTreks Sumatra trips (https://www.eldertreks.com/tour/ETTD000431) I will explain this concept and our project more, but for now, please enjoy a short video and knowing that we still have a chance to save these extremely rare animals. Just as the Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi are on the increase as the entire village prospers by saving (and not poaching), there is a chance we can save these precious animals in a similar fashion in Way Kambas.
