He has been known to pay people to sit and listen to his songs and look amused. If you have nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon, drop by and have a listen. You may come away with a smile on your face and money in your pocket.😂

Join us at the Random Passage Tearoom this coming Sunday for Andrea and Jay's Kitchen Party!

Andrea Lodge and Jay Sorce met during their graduate studies in music in New York. Andrea, a native of Bonavista, introduced Jay to Newfoundland music right away, and he was hooked! While the couple still lives in New York, they travel home to Newfoundland every year and have been presenting concerts of folk music since 2010. Combining the sounds of accordion, guitar, mandolin, banjo and bodhran, they present unique arrangements of Newfoundland folk songs, with variety rarely heard from a duo.

In a program of tunes and songs that tell the story of love and loss, with the humour that Newfoundlanders find in even the hardest times, Andrea and Jay’s kitchen party is the authentic outport Newfoundland experience.

Tickets are $15.00 and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling (709) 464-2233 or emailing [email protected].

We are located in New Bonaventure at the end of Route 239.

Tom Kennedy was born and raised in St. John’s. He studied chemistry at Memorial University, and then chose, fortuitously, to study journalism at what was then called Ryerson. His went on to a career at the Globe and Mail Newspaper, CBC and CTV that lasted 40 years. He was one of the relatively few journalists in Tiananmen Square the night of the violent crackdown, he covered wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq, uprisings in the middle east, he faced arrest in Russia, flirted with becoming an arms merchant (sort of), and discovered (not really) an adolescent singer named Celine Dion. He promises an event of tall (but true) tales from the road.

Martin’s presentation will introduce the Camino through pictures and stories. He will also focus also on the practicalities of food, accommodation, planning, navigation and travel for those who may have more than a passing interest in taking on the challenge of a modern pilgrimage themselves.

Originally from Northwest River, Labrador, Dave Paddon is a retired airline pilot. He grew up listening to the songs and stories of the trappers and attending many a late night “session” around many a kitchen table. In 1986 he married a Gander girl and subsequently became immersed in Island culture. As a result he accumulated a store of material which suddenly bubbled to the surface when he and Kim returned to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2005 after 20 years upalong.

He wrote his first recitation in 2007 and has now written 50. Five of these have been published in handmade chapbooks and his work is available on 2 CDs or through electronic download. His recitations “Ralph: Flying Hound” and “Kimmy and Mike” were recently released as illustrated children's books and his latest work is "Half the lies you tell are not true", a collection of 13 of his funniest recitations.

Dave lives in St. John's and is a regular at festivals and fundraisers throughout the province.

Tickets are $10.00, and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling (709) 464-2233 or emailing [email protected].

We have these two fantastic DJ's joining us for our celebrations on July 20th for a dance party!
