Late night walks looking for eyes in the trees, or fireside talks while you check your back every ten minutes, or curling up in a blanket with a cup of tea and your favourite spooky movie, what’s your favourite?
We are currently rewatching X-files since the first time it aired.
Enjoying the slow transition of summer to winter.
Book a couple of nights and enjoy this spooky, getting dark, owls hooting season.

We absolutely have the best guests! All of our guests are so thoughtful and do little things for us every time.
From fixing a deck board to vacuuming the back of our fridge when the motor was struggling to cleaning the hard water stains out of our toilet (it was magic) to doing laundry to showing me a new pillow arrangement to sharing northern light photos and memories and leaving such kind words.
We are so grateful for all of it, all the time. And it is always unexpected. (We are just thankful, not seeking future gifts. 😂)

The last couple of weeks our guests have left the following gifts and they were photographable, so I am documenting it.

Will we get a repeat this year? Let’s hope so.

It’s been another great year at RecBase and we are so thankful for all our amazing guests and the memories they have shared with us.

As a thank you, we are offering up Rec Base for 2021 prices in November ($130 a night) strictly to our social media followers as of Sept 18.

Our last guests got a spectacular show of the Northern Lights and we hope they will be up and bright throughout November. At any rate the wood will be stacked and ready for you.

Message us to book.

Friendly little brown bats are gentle and shy nocturnal, flying mammals. You may have glimpsed one flying by at night as they find their way through the dark, sending out ultrasonic pulses of sound and listening for the returning echoes to locate obstacles.

Fun Facts to Know:
Little brown bats are federally listed as endangered, due to white nose syndrome.

A little brown bat will consume 600 to 1,000 mosquitoes, or mosquito-sized bugs, per hour, and eat more than half of their own body weight in insects each night!

A feasting colony of bats helps manage insect populations. Bats eat insects that are considered pests who transmit disease, destroy farmers’ crops and impact forest stands.

**We’ve put up a little bat house on the south side of our shop, but so far, we didn’t think we had attracted them as permanent residents. We were glad to see this one the other day.

We don’t often see deer right on our property but when we do they are on the game camera or at 5:30 am. Pro-tip: have an early riser in your group who can share all the sightings with you.

Photo capture from May that we just discovered. We assume this guy grew up to be quite handsome and trotted past Darcy at 5:45 am as Darcy left a little cabin.

I think he looks incredulous as he wonders why we would ever leave. We wonder that too, even after a couple days of work, it’s a little piece of paradise. Our latest delivery driver raved about it for five minutes as it was his first time in the area.

This gorgeous and rightful king of the forest, had five beauties with him, plus a brand new foal and one on the way. We spotted them just east of Tay River and just 6 kms from Rec Base. It is easy to assume these were the ones outside our gate last week. Enjoy your explorations!

Mid April we spotted a moose, a beaver and a Great Blue Heron, all of them less than five minutes from Rec Base. (This week we’ve had wildies at our gate!)

The glorious sun has finally melted all the snow and things should green up soon.

Looking forward to a busy spring and summer!

It’s been pleasantly quiet since Christmas but February is picking up now. We have already reached 45% of our bookings from last year. We’ve booked three weddings, two family reunions, a friends gathering, and a hunting trip. August is almost full but July is still pretty open and of course September is the best time to come and hang out in the fall colours. Beat the AirBnB crowd and book us soon if you are interested. Our calendar is up to date on our website.

1170 days in and we are having fun celebrating these milestones. We are thrilled to host our next guests while the temperatures are still balmy. Next week they are to plummet to -30, but the fun won’t be over. You can’t beat our cozy getaway in front of a fire with books, games and movies. Lots of room to book your getaway for January and February!

We look forward to hosting our 1000th guest soon! Who will it be? Only 50 or so to go!
