Saw at least 5 seals in Barra Strait by Iona Port yesterday. Many more wildlife sighting this time of year and a lot less humans. If you want a quiet time to visit the island, this is it.

Rare piebald deer very close to our cabin this morning.

The fledgling has grown over the summer and finally flown the coop leaving this pair, happily, with an empty nest. The juvenile would scream bloody murder all day to be fed and finally learned to fly with some amount of coordination to get food for itself. We watch the same scenario play out every year from these resident eagles and their single offspring.

New exhibit at our local museum In Iona.

190 years ago a Mastodon femur was discovered by a farmer named Alexander McRae in Middle River. This fall, it makes its first return to Cape Breton. 🦣

Taking advantage of one of the last warm fall days, even got Rob to walk down the trail with me. Flowers are still in bloom, especially the volunteer in the parking area.

Last of the chanterelles. I‘m going to miss these little beauties. If you’re here in the late summer and fall it’s fun to walk thru the woods for them. We’ll be glad to identify them for you.

The calm before the storm. Phillipe will be bringing us some wind and much needed rain. The expected wind is only 40-60km, with gusts to 80. Hopefully this will be our last PTD of the season. Photos are from our new cabin which will be available to book in May 2024.

Summer‘s not over yet!! Walked to the beach from Hector’s Point, no car access so on a beautiful hot Sunday afternoon, we were the only ones on the beach, as usual. The water temp was perfect!
