LOL - and just like that it all changed and the snow returned. It isn’t super obvious from this photo, but the snow is heavy again and settling back on the trees. Just went over to clean and prep for friends coming to stay this week.

Things you should know about us! :-)

It is a TINY house - it is small! (Sleeps 4 - 2 in a queen bed in a room you can stand in, 2 in the loft with mattresses that touch).

There is a composting toilet! It is a little different for some to use - but honestly - it is just fine.

There are BEES on the property. They are very unlikely to ever bother you - but you need to know they are here.

We expect our guests to be TOLERANT, INCLUSIVE AND KIND. No matter your ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or abilities you are welcomed here.

Let’s talk toilets! When we were looking into getting a tiny house, one of the considerations was sewage. We were initially told we would need to upgrade the septic system to the tune of thousands of dollars. Instead we chose a composting toilet, which although expensive, was nowhere near the cost of a new septic tank. As you can see, we haven’t got window coverings installed just yet. Nor have we decorated with pictures etc. But it is now habitable with all services up and running and all kitchen needs catered for! We are going to install one more bathroom cabinet, and a counter top where you see the boxes. Also a shelf to go in over the fridge for more storage or a microwave.

Woohoo - we have power. Which means working toilet (Seperett Composting), hot water, lights and air con/heat. Our first visitors this weekend (friends - we are not set up for rental just yet). 🎈🎉

Built the new bed today. Now all we need is hydro to hurry up and connect up the power.
Next job to make this a lovely place to stay is the deck. Simon will be framing tomorrow and the wood decking is on order. Water is connected and drainage done.

Love the new shiny kettle 🙂. Loft bedroom is….cosy! Beds are super comfy, we weren’t sure with the mattresses that come in a box, but we are really happy with them. Bamboo sheets are lovely and soft.

So…. What are the little extras that you like to see in an air bnb or VRBO type rental? We have lots of ideas ranging from stocking with local accessories (think Salt Spring Soap etc) to providing a guide to local things to do. But what would brighten up your stay? Gift basket with our honey? Home made chutney? Seasonal garden veg?

The tiny house is coming along. A few changes to our original plans due to Covid. There is a shortage on some items, so we have a bath and shower, instead of the shower unit we wanted, and our floors will be different, but that’s ok. That’s 2021. I expect a bath will be better for those with children anyway. We will have different siding, and different cladding inside. But I have to give a huge shout out to Mint Tiny House Company who have been so helpful and adaptable.
