We really enjoyed our stay at Sandos Caracol. The monkeys!!!! What a highlight. Families of monkeys came almost every evening to visit us on our balcony. It's a great resort with wonderful family rooms that can accommodate up to 6 guests which is rare. It's a medium to low price point and you get exactly what you pay for and I would say more. The only down side is the rocky beach, however you do get to stay at one and play at two. This means that you can head over to the sister resort Sandos Playacar which has a fantastic beach and get your fix which we did. The grounds are absolutely stunning with numerous jungle paths. The food was delicious. We ate lots of nachos lol! Alejandra from sales was wonderful at explaining all the wedding options during my site inspection. This is a unique resort that will please a unique niche of clients. The waterslides will make this a hit for any young family.

What an amazing holiday Sandos Caracol. The monkeys were the highlight! Great moderately priced eco resort. 4 star. Fun waterslides. Food was really enjoyable, particularly the Brazilian. We didn’t go to the beach here but went to the sister hotel for my beach fix. Overall great value for those looking for something different.

Had a nice weekend in Lake George. Although the season doesnt't open until May we really enjoyed our stay at the Quality Inn and enjoyed sitting by the fire pit. We visited the Sundowner which is a higher end waterfront option with cozy cottage vibes and highly recommend the pizza at The Lagoon. It's a pricey destination and you will be hard pressed to find a room under 300$ during summer months but a one night getaway is easily done

Barcelo Solymar
In general, the nicest and newer hotels are on the far north east end of the island. But the nicest beaches are more towards the beginning in the older hotel zone. They honestly each have their own cache and price reflects the quality of the amenities. My overall favourite was Melia Las Americas with great ocean view lobby and well laid out overall modern design.

Lovely 4 star resort. Good value.
Big bungalows for families or great ocean view rooms.
Best: beach sparlkles like diamonds and probably the best beach in Varadero. Walking distance to town.
Needs improvement: beach bar and general maintennance.
