Out last night in Antarctica. Rob, Sue Chuck and our friend, Kitt took off in a Ken Borak Air Twin Otter ski plane to visit Vinson Base camp. They left on the 35 minute flight after dinner and enjoyed a great reception by Forrest McCarthy and some of the other guides and characters on Vinson this year. They were back at Union Glacier in full bright midnight sun a few hour later.

Our team has left to Antarctica last week and if the weather permits, they are scheduled to fly out from the ice today.

They had the pleasure to fly on the 757 to the ice instead of taking the Ilyushin-76.

On August 16 Libba, Will and Jack Foley enjoyed a celebration of their successful Kilimanjaro climb with their Berg Adventures mountain staff. This morning, August 17th Erick called from Arusha Airport to report that their flight to Serengeti left on time so by now they are relaxing at Four Seasons Serengeti Safari Lodge. Tomorrow morning, they have an early morning Balloon Safari scheduled and on the 19th they are going to do a long drive to north Serengeti in order to view a portion of the famous Serengeti Migration with endless herds of Wildebeests and Zebras following the rains. Well deserved! Congratulations to the Foley Family; all the BAI staff reported that they are “the best team ever.”

The made it! The Foley Family, Libba, Will and Jack, from Midland, Georgia stood on Uhuru Peak, the top of Kilimanjaro,19,341 feet above sea level at 6:00 AM the morning of August 15.

Berg Adventures is officially back at it! At 12:35 PM on Sunday, August 8, Ethiopian Airways Flight 815 from Addis Ababa landed at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Jack, Will and Libba Foley from Midland Georgia, pictured here, were on board. Outside the airport, Camilius, BAI Safari Driver, and Erick were waiting. Libba said that it took some time to get through visa and entry requirements inside but all their bags arrived and they look fresh and ready to go for the Machame Route on Kilimanjaro and then on to Serengeti for a four-day safari.

Tanzania is open. We are currently booking our classic Machame Route on Kilimanjaro with Three Day Safari. (optional Balloon Ride in Tarangire) for families, friends and open groups. Departures for July, August, September and October will still be uncrowded and will enjoy our favorite weather for hiking on Kili and for game drives. Our current travellers have good flight options from North America available on KLM through Amsterdam and on Ethiopian Air through Addis Abba.
