Common Passport Mistakes
If you’re traveling abroad, there are tons of passport mistakes that might hold you up at security. Some of these mistakes are easily avoidable, while others might just surprise you!

1. Not checking the expiration date
While this seems obvious, it’s also easily overlooked. Ensure your expiration date is far enough in the future because some countries won’t accept passports that will expire in six months!

2. Waiting too long to apply
Expedited shipping will cost you extra, and even then it'll take three weeks to receive your new passport.

3. Not correctly filling out the form
Luckily the correction process is free for typos made to your passport.

4. Not updating your name after a change
Passports don’t automatically update, so when a name change occurs you’ll have to go through the renewal process.

5. Having too many stamps
Who knew? Some countries have a requirement for the number of blank pages that travelers must have in their books.

Whether you’re road-tripping through the Canada or the US this summer or exploring the Côte d‘Azur, here are my top tips for making the most of Google Maps when you travel 🔎

➡️ Save Offline Maps: Before you go, download maps for your destination by tapping the location, choosing "Download," and voilà! You can now navigate without the internet.

➡️ Explore with Street View: Here‘s a cool trick! Drop the adorable yellow peg man on the map and virtually stroll through the streets. It‘s like being there already. Do this around your hotel to get familiar with nearby places.

➡️ Discover Nearby Places: This is one of my favorites! Use the "Explore" feature to find attractions, restaurants, bars, parks, you name it, all in your vicinity. It‘s like having a local guide right in your pocket!

Nail down your must-see and must-do things. Think of it as your travel safety net—no missed flights, overbooked hotels and tours, or long lineups. Setting the foundation removes all the stress and FOMO of travel.

👉Flex Room
I always recommend clients leave gaps in their schedule for the unexpected. We always think we can pack more into an itinerary than we probably should. Use those gaps for exploring and doing things that spontaneously pop up along the way — things like local festivals, hidden-away towns you’re driving through, etc.

With your essentials covered, you can enjoy unplanned moments without worrying about missing out. You’re going in knowing that you roam freely because your wishlist items are taken care of.

You know that moment when you think of the perfect thing to say but it’s too late because the moment has passed? It’s the worst.

That’s why when an acquaintance at a networking event brought up the fact that they didn’t understand why people use travel advisors because they had recently planned their own trip online.

I was so happy that I got the opportunity to speak up and point out the 20 hours this person could have saved herself by letting a travel advisor do the research and book the trip—this person is super busy with her career and kids!

What I didn’t point out is that by booking their cruise on that 3rd party travel website, they left tons of perks on the table, including onboard spending credits and complimentary specialty dining.

And if they need to make changes to their cruise, they’ll likely be passed from one customer service person to another.

You forget your headphones, left the book you planned to pack on the coffee table, and are sitting at your resort paranoid about leaving the hair dryer plugged in.

There’s nothing worse, in my opinion!

Here’s my day before travel checklist that I’ve perfected to make sure I don’t forget anything:

Start prepping a week before: I start setting things aside for my trip, but I hold off on packing until a day or two before, so I remember what’s in my suitcase.

Do a round of editing: Right before I pack, I edit to make sure I’m packing what I’ll actually need. I also check the weather forecast where I’m headed to make sure I’m prepared.

Carry-on check: I double- and triple-check my carry-on for my documents, my AirPods, and my lip chap—basically everything I’ll need on the actual flight (chapped lips on a four-hour flight is the worst!).

Travel admin: I download airline apps, make sure I have a copy of my boarding pass, etc.
