Choose-your-own adventure in Toronto and the GTA's backyard, with views of the Niagara Escarpment (including her infamous climbs), horse farms, former railways, and historic villages.

Caledon, just NW of Brampton, is a picturesque region that offers an unparalleled blend of scenic beauty and outdoor adventure, making it a prime destination for both road cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts.

If coming from the GTA, consider taking the train to Brampton GO Station on the Kitchener line, and riding the Etobicoke Creek Trail and country roads to connect to this beautiful region.

This past June we brought a group of cyclists on a two-day 120km rail trail ride in the Kawarthas Northumberland region, on our Trent Severn Trail Tour, an Ontario By Bike Ride.

Starting in Campbellford and west to Peterborough, Lindsay and north to Fenelon Falls we cycled over suspension and trestle bridges, through historic waterside communities, and enjoyed wildlife viewings, delicious beverages, meals and warm welcomes along the way.

We had the pleasure of documenting the experience in a blog, which you can read at the link below. We've also published the itinerary online for you to follow or be inspired by on your own self-guided adventure!

We recently had the opportunity to explore the G2G Rail Trail in Huron County (aka Ontario's West Coast) between the beautiful towns of Goderich and Blyth.

We were struck by the quality of and signage on the trail, the area's stunning beaches, rivers and forests, interesting architecture and history, the friendliness of the people, incredible food, artisan shops and locally-made goods and vibrant and active artistic communities.

We loved this peaceful stretch of the G2G Rail Trail and it’s such a fantastic way to see the natural beauty and unique communities in this part of Ontario.

No Bike, No Problem!

Read a blog like this, and naturally you start imagining all the places across the province you could ride. Those pesky logistics tend to get in the way, though—what if you can’t transport your bike there, or need an e-bike boost for a longer ride? What if you’re already in the area, but need a good bike shop stat?

Fortunately, there are several stellar options throughout the Kawarthas Northumberland region (Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough & the Kawarthas, and Northumberland County) to rent a set of wheels or pick up some needed last-minute bike supplies.

It can happen – getting caught out on a ride without the right gear to fix a flat or a more challenging mechanical issue that is beyond a trail or curbside repair. There are times when there is no way around it – help is needed. Just a call away, and available to CAA members, CAA Bike Assist is just that.

Here are a few happy tales from cyclists we spoke to whose days have been saved, making use of CAA Bike Assist, while out on ride adventures near and far from home.

The Prescott Russell Recreational Trail has been around for close to 20 years but 2024 is going to be a special year!

Take advantage of many recent enhancements to the Trail. It became part of the Trans Canada Trail in late 2023, and also just finished building it's sixth Pavilion near the village of Alfred, which are all stocked with all the amenities and info needed for a quality rest area. Check out the many community events happening on the trail, with a two day tour planned for September, and monthly community markets in Bourget.

This season will also be the first full cycling season where you can rent e-bikes from one of three partners near the Trail in the villages of Bourget (Mike Dean's), Plantagenet (Cafe sur la Rive) and Vankleek Hill (Beau's Brewery).

And with recent trail itineraries published from the Trail organization and South Eastern Ontario tourism, 2024 is definitely the year to ride the Prescott Russell Recreational Trail!
