Scientists have filmed a fish swimming at an extraordinary depth, making it the deepest observation of any fish... ever! The species, a type of snailfish was filmed in the Izu-Ogasawara Trench, south of Japan at a depth of 8,336m (27,349ft). At 8 km (5 miles) down, they are experiencing more than 80 megapascals, or 11,000 lbs of pressure per square inch, which is more than enough force to crush a vehicle into a flat pancake in seconds. These critters can handle this enormous pressure because their bodies are gelatinous and they have no swim bladder like most fish, which would likely explode at these depths.
