Several reports surfaced on social media that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had sent the emails containing names, application numbers, and unique client identifiers to the wrong addresses.

Expired and soon-to-expire Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders and Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence (TR2PR) applicants were told to wait for an email with instructions on how to extend their status. One day later, several reports surfaced on social media that Immigration, Refugees,....

PGWPs expired after September 20, 2021 can get extension

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser tweeted that the previously-announced PGWP extension will be available to PGWPs that have expired since September 20, 2021.

The new policy is beneficial to anyone who has an expiring PGWP. The change is mainly intended to accommodate Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates who have not had the opportunity to apply for immigration through Express Entry since September 21, 2021.

Canada’s Prime Minister creates task force to address immigration delays

The task force, made up of a large group of federal ministers, will seek to identify major gaps in these services and will also be reviewing service delivery and making recommendations for how these factors can improve.

The task force will be paying particular attention to the processing of immigration applications by identifying priority areas where action is needed. The goal is to create both long-term and short-term solutions that will clear the backlogs and improve the quality and speed of services.

Canada to end vaccine mandates for domestic travellers, transportation workers

As of 00:01 Eastern Time on June 20, Canada will suspend vaccination requirements for domestic and outbound travel, federally regulated transportation sectors and federal government employees.

Canadian government officials said the suspension of vaccine mandates reflects an improved public health situation in Canada. Nearly 90% of Canadians have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and case counts have decreased.

The current vaccination requirements remain in effect at the border, as coronavirus continues to circulate throughout the globe and the risks of infection vary by country. These requirements include quarantine and testing requirements for Canadians who have not been fully vaccinated.

Results from the latest PNP draw in British Columbia

Provincial Nominations can give Express Entry candidates a higher CRS score and offer alternative pathways to Canadian permanent residence.

British Columbia has released the results of the latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) invitation draws that took place this past week. PNP invitation draws in British Columbia typically occur on a weekly basis, making it one of the most frequent PNP draws in Canada.

More than 141 candidates received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination. This is fewer than the 167 invitations issued on May 31.

Canada invited 932 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence on June 8.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) only invited Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates in the new draw. As a result, the minimum score required to be invited in this draw was 796. The score was relatively high because PNP candidates get an automatic 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points added to their base score.

The new invitation round is the largest since Canada invited 1,047 PNP candidates on March 2. In the previous Express Entry draw, IRCC invited 589 PNP candidates with scores of at least 741.

Canada to support internationally educated health professionals

Canada is pledging $1.5 million to remove barriers to immigrants who want to work in health care.

The parliamentary secretary to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced nearly $1.5 million in funding to help newcomers work in the Canadian health sector faster.

The funds are intended to promote collaboration and information sharing in the health sector. Specifically, to help internationally educated health care professionals get their credentials recognized faster.

The project builds on the success of the National Newcomer Navigation Network (N4), an online platform for foreign health care professionals who wish to work in Canada. N4 was launched in 2019 by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario’s (CHEO).

New Express Entry draw sizes to be similar to pre-pandemic

When all-program Express Entry draws resume in July, the number of invitations could resemble pre-pandemic figures, according to an internal briefing memo obtained by CIC News through an access to information request.

Although the estimated number of invitations issued in each round was redacted, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) memo said the draw size would be consistent with the average number of invitations issued pre-pandemic.

All-program draws in 2020 before March 18 ranged between 3,400 and 4,500. In 2019, all-program draws ranged from 3,200 to 3,900.

05/21/2022

The year 2022 has turned out to be an extraordinary year for Canada, owing to the rising number of immigrants in the country. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the country registered 35,260 permanent residents in January. It is quite a large number, and it projects even a higher number of immigrants by the end of the year. It is the second consecutive year that the country is expected to achieve over four hundred refugees.

Last year the country broke history as it landed more than 40,5000 immigrants. The high number of immigrants was partly because the IRCC gave permanent residence to those already living in the country. It is amazing how the graph of the flow of immigrants has been on the rise for the past year because the last time IRCC realized such an influx was in the year 1913.

This year has started quite strongly for the country, and the graph is expected to escalate even higher than projected in the new Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024 in February. Canada targets to land 432,000 new immigrants by the end of this year, the highest level in history, but if the projection in January is something to go by, the numbers might even be higher.

Canada providing charter flights to facilitate the arrival of Ukrainian refugees

Three charter flights are being provided for Ukrainians to travel from Poland to three different Canadian provinces.

Over the next few weeks, Ukrainians who have been approved under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) and their family members will have access to chartered flights to Canada.

Those who have obtained their visa to come to Canada under the CUAET will receive an email from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with details on how to register for the flights, IRCC said in a press release issued May 11.
