There are two main immigration programs for newcomers to Canada: Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
Express Entry is a points-based system where candidates are ranked based on factors like work experience, skills, and education. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residence.

PNPs are run by individual provinces and territories. They can nominate candidates from the Express Entry pool (enhanced PNP) or have their separate application process (base PNP). Base PNP eligibility varies but often involves factors like work experience in the province or a job offer.

In 2024, Express Entry is expected to be the bigger program, but PNPs are projected to become the most popular pathway in the coming years.

The answer is NO. While all visitor visa applications for one group of family members may be submitted in the same envelope (alongside one payment receipt accounting for the total fee of all applications), everyone must complete and sign their own visitor visa application. This rule also applies to any other required forms, excluding the Family Information form, which must only be completed by applicants 18 years or older.

Note: Parents and guardians can help their children fill out their form(s), and every Visitor Visa applicant under the age of 18 must have their document(s) signed by a parent/guardian.

06/19/2024

Having a break between studies is often a normal part of student life as individuals pursue work, travel, and other opportunities in between stints within a classroom.

Can these breaks impact an application to a Canadian school? The short answer is no, but applicants must take certain precautions to explain this break and ensure they give themselves the best chance of success.

It is important to note that Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) tend to accept a certain length of study gap for different levels of study. DLIs accept a gap of up to two years for undergraduate programs, while for post-graduate programs, DLIs tend to allow a gap of five years. Some institutions in Canada can even allow longer gaps, provided that a good reason is given to explain the gap in studies.
