for Self Exploration, Actors, Singers, Speakers,& you So it’s not about the voice. It’s about you. You mold you.

What I do:

This is a completely different kind of voice coaching. I have been crafting and exploring this method for more than 10 years. The product is your voice but that is not the starting point. The sum total of you. It’s about excavating your perfection; going under and over and through the fears and habits and pick-ups- all the things we’ve picked up and adopted to be heard and acceptable-

it’s about getting beyond the mind to your spirit and your desire and your message. What ever that message is, and empowering it. If your method is music or theatre; a speaker or author’s microphone; a boardroom or a conference stage or a tv or film studio. Or your living room, your own personal practice. It’s about the state of your heart and what you wish to communicate. I have a knack for understanding what is blocking someone from communicating what they truly are, and a genius for finding ways to work through that. This is not therapy. It is excavation- refining of self and intention. Expressing what is to move to what may be. And if it is inside you to do, then it is what may be. I am not looking to mold you. I offer tools and intuition and experience. This work happened to me, I did not seek it out. It arrived. I have just followed the path. So should you come to it, perhaps it is meant for you too. You’ll know. We all have something to say, and we all have blocks. There is always a key to unlocking that. It takes courage to do the work, and as with anything, what you bring is what we have to work with. It is never without joy.

My dearest Gina,
I consider it a privilege to have crossed paths with you so many times over the years. Whenever we met, the atmosphere was always joyful and convivial, but I would still shake with nerves every time thinking about the person in front of me, knowing where you had come from and what you had achieved. The biggest names in Italian cinema recognized your boundless talent: from Lattuada to Soldati, from Monicelli to De Sica, from Blasetti to Germi.

If you had taken advantage of your status as a living legend, you would have been justified. Inside and outside of Italy, you were the ultimate diva, the beloved “bersagliera” who made the world sigh, the star of an immortal moment of cinematic history.

But instead, I had the pleasure of knowing your genuine, shining simplicity as a multitalented artist who loved a challenge and a passionate enthusiast of music and the arts. In your great generosity, you even gifted me a bronze bust of my own likeness.

You’re used to wearing the parts of any person depicted in the script. That’s why I’m certain that you’ll have left behind the old clothes of a fatigued body with your usual eager bravado, to embrace the transformation that frightens some, but is really a friend. A simple doorway to a stage flooded with light.

FRIENDSHIP

is a mirror to presence and a testament to forgiveness. Friendship not only helps us to see ourselves through another’s eyes, but can be sustained over the years only with someone who has repeatedly forgiven us for our trespasses as we must find it in ourselves to forgive them in turn.

A friend knows our difficulties and shadows and remains in sight, a companion to our vulnerabilities more than our triumphs, when we are under the strange illusion we do not need them. An undercurrent of real friendship is a blessing exactly because its elemental form is rediscovered again and again through understanding and mercy. All friendships of any length are based on a continued, mutual forgiveness. Without tolerance and mercy all friendships die.

In the course of the years a close friendship will always reveal the shadow in the other as much as ourselves, to remain friends we must know the other and their difficulties and even their sins and encourage the best in them, not through critique but through addressing the better part of them, the leading creative edge of their incarnation, thus subtly discouraging what makes them smaller, less generous, less of themselves.

Friendship is the great hidden transmuter of all relationship: it can transform a troubled marriage, make honorable a professional rivalry, make sense of heartbreak and unrequited love and become the newly discovered ground for a mature parent-child relationship.

The dynamic of friendship is almost always underestimated as a constant force in human life: a diminishing circle of friends is the first terrible diagnostic of a life in deep trouble: of overwork, of too much emphasis on a professional identity of forgetting who will be there when our armored personalities run into the inevitable natural disasters and vulnerabilities found in even the most ordinary existence…

Friendship transcends disappearance: an enduring friendship goes on after death, the exchange only transmuted by absence, the relationship advancing and maturing in a silent internal conversational way even after one half of the bond has passed on.

But no matter the medicinal virtues of being a true friend or sustaining a long close relationship with another, the ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the self nor of the other, the ultimate touchstone is witness, the privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the essence of another, to have walked with them and to have believed in them, and sometimes just to have accompanied them for however brief a span, on a journey impossible to accomplish alone.

The holidays might not only be a time where we naturally think of distant friends but also one for finding the phone and picking up the conversation with them once again, (if we can find a moment amid the immediate surrounding celebrations) : a day for taking another step and marking a milestone with them, even across the miles, in witness and companionship.

This photograph however, is of a summer's day exchange. On our way up to Connemara just a few short years ago, on my Irish tour, we stopped for a break in the village of Cong, where after a brief gathering we all dispersed to eat the picnic lunch we had brought along with us from Ballyvaughan. Everyone spread along the river bank, under the trees, the water glittering behind them as they ate and conversed in the summer sunlight. I passed and then passed again, these two avid conversationalists, only to return an hour later to find them still in the midst of what looked liked a very, very important exchange. I still wonder, as I look at the frame I captured, what exactly they were addressing, or who was hearing what, and I still do when I look at their silhouettes, which is exactly what I like about the picture, and why I am even happier that I never asked them to disclose their still secret exchange….
