✨🌿 Sustainable Spotlight: El Dorado Nature Reserve 🌿✨

Continuing our eco-lodge series, we have El Dorado Eco Lodge and Reserve! Where do we start... El Dorado is paradise in its truest form. Established in 2005 along the extraordinary Santa Marta mountain range in Colombia, El Dorado has made it its mission to restore the habitat of the endangered Santa Marta Parakeet. 🦜

The reserve sits on over 3200 acres of cloud forests and ecosystems, protecting it and working to restore its ecological health. Here are just some of their initiatives:

🍈Omitting red meat at their restaurant
📿 Supporting women-owned businesses by selling their artisanal crafts at the gift shop
📖 Diverting the proceeds from each visit into conservation projects for endangered species, local communities, women and youth, and environmental education programs.

❄️ Recap of our Polar Bears of Churchill tour! ❄️

What. A. Trip. We saw quite a few polar bears out on the tundra as well as graceful red fox hunting their next meal. The group dynamics were wonderful. Our guide Jason Ransom: one of the greatest we’ve had. A big thank you to Frontiers North Adventures and Polar Bears International for hosting us in the sub-Arctic.

The two day VIA Rail Canada train back to Winnipeg was wonderful as well. We loved the transition of scenery from frost to brilliant fall! 🌨️🍁

Now, we’re turning the leaf over to our April Colombia trips. Until next time, Adventurers! 🌎

Flowers or feathers? 🌸🔥

You're looking at a flock of Scarlet Ibis, found in the Llanos region of eastern Colombia. 🇨🇴 They are known for stunning synchronized flights and group nesting behaviour, travelling in flocks of at least 30 and providing a beautiful backdrop against the mangroves and coastal wetlands.

Our CEO Catherine is spending her Thanksgiving in Thunder Bay, Ontario with dear family before embarking on our much cooler Polar Bears of Churchill tour!

Meet the majestic Crowned Woodnymph, a dazzling hummingbird native to Colombia! 🇨🇴🌿

With its iridescent plumage and a distinctive crown resembling a regal headdress, this tiny avian showstopper is a true gem of the cloud forests. Not just a pretty face, these aerial acrobats can even beat their wings up to 80 times per second! 🕊️💫

Catherine has a mission of enriching lives through nature & cultural travel, achieving this by linking eco-conscious travellers to like-minded hosts in remote destinations across all seven continents. 🌍

Over the past 30 years, she has been involved with leading an Ecoliteracy Field School; a multi-disciplined arts retreat in the wilderness; volunteerism projects with whale researchers in both the Atlantic and Pacific waters; and an ecotourism project with three communities in rural Costa Rica. 🌱

When not travelling, Catherine enjoys hiking, birding, and beach-combing around her beautiful coastal hometown of Gibsons, British Columbia.

You've never had coffee quite like this... ☕

In our Colombia Birds, Nature, and Culture tour (leaving April 8-16, 2024), we'll be visiting a 126 year old coffee farm located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range. ⛰️🌱

La Victoria Coffee Farm has been herbicide and pesticide-free long before "organic" was the trend. Fully sustainable and self-sufficient, they still operate with their original machinery installed over a century ago.
