Active Aging Week

Active Aging Week October 6–October 12, 2025. Initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging, presented by Humana.

Initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA), Active Aging Week takes place each year during the last week of September. The weeklong campaign calls attention to and wholeheartedly celebrates the positivity of aging today. It showcases the capabilities of older adults as fully participating members of society and spotlights the role models that lead the way. Active Aging

Week challenges society’s diminished expectations of aging by showing that, regardless of age or health conditions, adults over 50 can live as fully as possible in all areas of life—physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational and environmental. The objective of the annual health-promotion event is to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment. It also promotes the benefits of healthier, more active lifestyles across the life span. In 2015, the observance will be held September 27–October 3.

The International Council on Active Aging (ICA) marks Active Aging Week September 30-October 6.

The aim is to celebrate the contributions of older adults and promote healthy physical and mental activities that combat the negative effects of aging and help bring joy and meaning to older peoples' lives.
As human beings are living longer, this is more important than ever.

👩‍🦳👨‍🦳🏃‍♀️🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️ The week surrounding International Day of Older Persons, today, October 1, is Active Aging Week.

For an entire week, we celebrate aging and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle as we get older. The goal is to give older adults the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, friendly, and fun atmosphere.

Older people who actively focus on a healthy, vibrant lifestyle are those who avoid the dangers of sedentary aging.

Below are six reasons to stay active as you age:

~Every 29 minutes an older adult dies from a fall.
~Strength and balance training programs can reduce falls by 40 percent.
~Half of those 65+ who have fallen will fall again within the next 12 months.
~About 1,800 falls in older adults result in death.
~One-fourth of older people who have a hip fracture from a fall die within six months of the injury.
~9,500 deaths in older adults each year are correlated with a fall.

Get out and get active to lead a long, healthy life!

It’s Active Aging Week, and we’re excited to emphasize how great nutrition supports lifelong vitality! From nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables to whole grains and healthy fats, making mindful food choices every day can truly impact our health.

Incorporating a variety of fruits and veggies into our meals provides essential vitamins and antioxidants. Whole grains like quinoa and whole wheat help keep our energy levels steady, while quality proteins from lean meats, dairy, and nuts support our muscle health. Additionally, healthy fats from avocados and olive oil are excellent for heart health!

As we focus on nourishing ourselves this week, we invite you to discover just how easy and enjoyable it can be to include these foods in your meals whether it’s adding fruits to your breakfast or trying out a colorful salad for lunch, every little choice counts!
