COVID-19: Current border measures and requirements

COVID-19: Latest update December 7, 2021—Temporary border restrictions and measures to address COVID-19 Omicron variant of concern

In effect: There are new requirements for all fully vaccinated travellers who have been in any country other than Canada and the United States in the 14 days prior to entry to Canada. Fully vaccinated travellers who are selected for arrival testing must quarantine in a suitable place until they receive a negative test result. The Government of Canada is increasing the number of fully vaccinated travellers being selected for testing to reach 100% of vaccinated travellers in the coming weeks.
Requirements for unvaccinated travellers remain unchanged.

Another major update from IRCC regarding international students, and yet another step in a positive direction to help them navigate these difficult times.

On Friday, IRCC announced that international students with an expired or expiring post-grad work permit (a work permit most international students are eligible for once they graduate in Canada, so they can stay, work and apply for permanent residence) may be able to apply for another 18-month open work permit.

Why?

Many international students need 1+ year of Canadian work experience after graduating in order to get a high enough score for our skilled PR program, Express Entry. Obviously Covid has made finding work much harder, meaning there are more students than ever stuck in Canada, unable to work their way towards PR.

I think this is a great move to continue to help international students who have gone through a very confusing and difficult year. And in Minister Mendicino's own words, supports the idea that "we don’t just want you [international students] to study here, we want you to stay here.”

For Students - Certain part-time jobs offer great pay and only require you to work some evenings and weekends. Some even offer more flexible hours or allow you to build your own schedule entirely. The best part is, you can even find a part-time job that may contribute to your future career in some way.

As a student, it’s possible you experience stress due to a number of different reasons such as finances. You need to pay for school, accommodations, books, food…the list goes on.
