Have you ever seen a sloth in the wild? Costa Rica is abundant with sloth encounters and the season for Costa Rica is upon us now. And, as you have all heard many times over the years, it's also a destination very near and dear to Trish's heart as it is the country where BikeHike was born.

Have you ever imagined spending a night on an active volcano?! This is your chance. It's just a few months away that Trish will be leading this special Guatemala departure. The departure is Feb. 22-Mar. 2, 25

Thank you to Lisa for sharing your pictures from your Cycling Puglia trip (Southern Italy) with us last month. There are lots of smiling faces, which we love to see.

A few years ago Puglia was off the beaten track but it's a buzz destination now. It's a great destination for those looking to cycle by day and experience farm to table experiences and historical cities. Let's not forget the pizzas, pastas, cheeses, gelatos and old world wines of course.

First day of scouting in Reggio Emilia, we went to a 2 Star Michelin Restaurant for a cooking class and a balsamic vinegar farm that has been in the family for 3 generations. Everything has been scrumptious so far.

Finally, we've launched our Guatemala itinerary that trip will be leading from Feb.22-Mar. 2, 25.

We'll hike to the summit of Acentanango Volcano and sleep on the volcano, kayak on Lake Atitlan surrounded by 3 cone shaped volcanoes, bike through indigenous villages and hike up to the top of the Mayan ruins in Tikal, the New York of the Maya civilization.

Trish lead trips in Guatemala 35 years ago, before BikeHike was born. This destination holds a very special place in her heart. And for those who join this trip, there will be lots of incredible stories that you'll hear from those days so long ago. In fact, it was in Guatemala that the idea for starting BikeHike began......

Our last Galapagos group experienced so many incredible wildlife encounters on their trip last week. If you love animals and love to get up close to them in the wild, the Galapagos Islands definitely won't disappoint.

Just found this photo of Trish on my computer from our first BikeHike trip to Guatemala in 2004, that was 20 years ago. Time flies, and this means that the 2025 Guatemala trip will be 21 years later! BikeHike is getting old. This year marks 31 years, wowza!

We're always adding new destinations and this is one that we've been operating for the last few years, Easter Island.

Easter Island belongs to Chile and is a 5 hour flight away from Santiago, Chile. It's the ideal add on to Chile's Patagonia.

The island is most famous for its nearly 1,000 extant monumental statues, called moai, which were created by the early Rapa Nui people. In 1995, UNESCO named Easter Island a World Heritage Site, with much of the island protected within Rapa Nui National Park.

We are just sorting out the logistics for Trish's special departure in 2025 (there will be two) but the first will be in Guatemala and details will come out very soon. Here are a few pics to get you all excited.

Some highlights: Sleeping on top of a volcano, Farm to Table Food experiences, Sea Kayaking on Lake Atitlan, Biking through rural villages and climbing to the top of the ruins of Tikal, the New York of the Mayas.

Guatemala was one of BikeHike's first destination 30 years ago and is still one of the off-the-beaten path destinations but packed with so many incredible experiences.

The Humboldt current is currently coming from Antarctica into the magnificent Galapagos Islands. This means more marine life and the chances of seeing penguins.
It also means choppier seas and colder water, so if you prefer warmer temperatures and calmer seas, the best season for the Galapagos is November through April.

Some of our travellers got to experience the Pope on our last day of our inaugural Alpe Adria trek.

Our incredible Alpe Adria trek has come to an end and those who added an extra day got to see some excitement in Trieste, Italy, where we ended. The Pope was speaking there this morning. I just missed him as I flew out early this morning but certainly an interesting way to end our fantastic trip.

The first few days of our Alpe Adria trek. We started in Slovenia, now we are in Austria and Italy tomorrow.

I am is on my way to Slovenia to lead our inaugural Alpe Adria trek I had a atop enroute in Frankfurt to experience what the city has to offer. city.

The season for Peru is just beginning, optimally April to November. This year things are much quieter in Peru so if you've ever wanted to get to Machu Picchu and not be with hoards of people, this is a good year to go. And bonus, you get to experience wonderful musicians like this one.

Spring in Vancouver takes my breath away

We have been leading trips in Costa Rica for 35 years and this is the closest we’ve ever come to so many toucans in one moment.

These workers in the banana plantations work 6 days a week, 10 hours per day with only breaks for breakfast and lunch. Makes me think twice about buying bananas.

Days 2 to 4 if our Costa Rica Challenge , so much fun!

Our clients on our Galapagos Multi-sport had an amazing sighting today, look at all those hammerhead sharks

Peru and the 4 day Lares Trail are magical places. The best season to experience this trek is between late April and November for the best weather. It's remote but you'll still encounter locals herding their livestock or walking along the trails. And as you can see, the landscapes are dramatic.
