Residential Maintenance

Who are We?
We help thousands of tourists to have a better experience of our beautiful city! We Victoria’s Vacation Rental Service Company punching well above its weight class. We manage 50+ units and care for another 30+. We operate exclusively in the downtown core, and everything is just a 1-5 minute walk from our storefront, so you’ll get your steps in!
Airlobby | Amala is focused on creating change in the industry and how short-term rentals are cared for, and we need your wisdom, talent and experience.
The candidate must have residential maintenance experience that crosses over the various disciplines of basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Ideal applicants have a positive attitude and willingness to work with others to move the mission forward.
Time Expectation:
This is a full-time position. We can be flexible around the days worked as we are a seven-day-a-week operation.
One weekend day can be expected. For example Tue - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday, so 5 days a week in total.
Some of the most common maintenance tasks:
Unit Inspections
Scheduled Preventive Maintenance
Replacing or repairing locks and door handles
Changing light bulbs
Furniture assembly
Installing TV Mounting
Replacing/repairing broken faucets
Blind repair
Basic Flooring
Test fire and carbon monoxide detectors
Sliding door/window servicing
Preparing units for seasonal changes
Repair/service various small household appliances and items
Diagnosis and or repair of various major appliances
Defrosting Freezers
Freeing up slow-moving drains
Closet door repair / replacement
Light fixture installation or replacement
Maintaining in-unit safety systems
Changing filters
Murphy bed servicing
Flooring
Projects from time to time would include:
Feature-wall painting or wallpapering.
Hanging curtains.
Wall patching and painting.
Deck maintenance, incl. minor garden upkeep, cleaning, and furniture upkeep.
Experience:
Proven commercial or residential maintenance experience.
Experienced enough to know one’s limits and a commitment to “not making a situation worse.”
Skills:
Good understanding of building systems and how they inter-relate Electric, Plumbing, and Mechanical.
Able to communicate, write and read English at a technical level.
Ability to evaluate priorities as situations change and pivot accordingly.
Ability to search for, find and digest technical manuals.
Organizational aptitude: Create work orders, track progress, log time and order material.
Drivers Licence.
Responsibilities:
We use a simple maintenance tracking software that you will be responsible for operating, maintaining and updating through multiple pieces of technology—smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
Tasks will require the candidate to use step ladders and require a reasonable amount of dexterity and stamina.
Walking with a toolbag or material for up to 3 blocks will be required.
Need to lift or shift various objects, often up to 50 pounds. (Help is never far away, so staining oneself is never “a part of the job.”)
Coordinate with and supervise any specialized trades or technicians when tasks go beyond the team’s skill set.
Ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Environment:
You will work with a well-rounded team. However, 70-80% of your work will be independent.
A willingness to ask for help and not get yourself ‘over your head’ is critical.
A professional and friendly demeanour will be expected when working with team members, the public or clients.
Encouraging and supportive management team.

$250M to support hosts impacted by cancellations - Resource Centre

Finally Some GOOD news for Hosts.

"[Airbnb] will send an email with more details in early April to hosts who are getting a payout. Future payments from the fund will be made on a monthly basis to hosts with qualifying cancellations."

Airbnb is now sharing in the cost of guest cancellations due to COVID-19, plus letting guests give money directly to hosts.
