Don't just see it. Be a part of its Conservation Story.
The Great Bear Rainforest—an enormous part of the western coast of Canada—is one of the rare places on Earth where wildlife and nature thrive.
Remote and unroaded, it offers a chance to reconnect with the wild. Tourism here isn’t just an experience; it’s part of the solution, inspiring guests to leave as advocates for this extraordinary wonder.

The Great Bear Rainforest: Raw and Unfiltered
“I think we all need a place in the world that we can close our eyes and just know exists—and it’s intact, and it’s safe. My hope for our guests is they have found that here…”
In the Great Bear Rainforest, the rhythm of life follows the tides, and the air carries the salt of the Pacific and the scent of cedar. It is a reminder of what the world can still be: deeply alive.

Marine Debris Removal Initiative Returns to the Great Bear Rainforest Coastline
For the first time since the Marine Debris Removal Initiative (MDRI) began during the break in tourism, our crews have returned to the frontlines—to make a difference to the coast we love and share with guests.
Over three intense weeks, 48 dedicated crew members aboard three ships—the flagship 92-foot Maple Leaf schooner, the 138-foot catamaran Cascadia, and Bluewater’s 68-foot ketch Island Roamer—tackled the rugged and exposed Great Bear Rainforest shoreline, collecting a staggering 32.5 tonnes of debris comprising of fishing gear, nets, rope, polystyrene floats, plastic bottles, and more!
We were proud to collaborate with our colleagues Bluewater Adventures, with Frank Brown and the youth of the Heiltsuk Nation, the Gitga’at Nation, the Kitasoo Xai’Xais Nation as well as the BC government’s Clean Coast, Clean Waters Fund, and businesses Bridgeman’s, Ocean Legacy and KUTE. And a big thank you to the Wilderness Tourism Association for administering it all.
To us, this work is not done until whales stop being entangled, plastic stops breaking down on beaches and seabirds are out of danger of ingesting plastic. As eco-tourism operators, doing this work as part of travel is what the future of tourism looks like 💪

Happy 120th Birthday Maple Leaf! See post for history highlights!
Did you know, each humpback whale is equivalent to about 30,000 trees for the amount of carbon it sequesters out of the atmosphere? Whaled almost to the brink in the twentieth century—the humpback whales’ comeback on our coast is a powerful reminder of how quickly we can make change when our values change.
We are so delighted for Maple Leaf Adventures community members The Marine Detective and Tavish Campbell—and their team at the Marine Education & Research Society—for their captivating contribution to the latest installment of the BBC Planet Earth III series, which aired on streaming services in Canada this Earth Day weekend. Episode 7 of Planet Earth III, titled "Human," features Vancouver Island, and it's a particularly hopeful story about animals adapting to how the natural world has changed.
This video, shot aboard Maple Leaf on Vancouver Island last summer—rings with the same sentiment, of how humanity can achieve the seemingly impossible when our priorities align with environmental stewardship. Happy #EarthDay from the coast! 🌎
