As of 8:17am on June 17, 2024, the Town of Wainwright has terminated the State of Local Emergency and lifted water restrictions. We do ask residents to be mindful of conserving water as we continue to replenish our reservoirs.

We want to thank our community for your cooperation during this water supply event. We appreciate all of the efforts made to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation in reducing water use. Our water levels have risen, however NOT TO SAFE LEVELS.

The more water that is consumed the longer it takes for the water supply to rise which puts the Town’s ability to ensure adequate water is available for firefighting and for residents at risk, so we NEED YOUR HELP to CONTINUE TO REDUCE WATER USE.

The State of Local Emergency will remain in place until our water supply reaches a safe level.

Actions to take:
• Reduce indoor water consumption as much as possible until further notice
• Do not fill large water jugs
• Do not water grass, plants or trees
• Do not wash vehicles or outdoor surfaces
• Businesses using high volumes of water must remain closed e.g. car washes. All others must reduce usage.

Please visit our website at wainwright.ca and social media outlets for updates.

We need your help! Although our water supply has been re-established, it takes time to build our levels back up to safe levels and the more water that is consumed the longer this takes.

This is SERIOUS as it affects the Town’s ability to ensure adequate water is available to support emergency fire suppression and provide water to residents. If we each do our part and work together, we will get through this quicker.

DO NOT:
• Use tubs and showers, dishwashers and laundry.
• Fill large water jugs.
• Water lawns, gardens, trees and shrubs using Town water.
• Wash down any outdoor surfaces.
• Fill outdoor decorative features, fountains, pools or hot tubs.
• Use water for construction purposes such as grading, compaction or dust control.
